May Wrap Up

 May is over! I am so excited for June! There are so many new books coming out that I want to read, season 2 of Lupin comes out on Netflix, and school ends!

Cinder by Marissa Myer

Rating: 4 stars

Series: The Lunar Chronicles book 1

It seems that everyone loves Marissa Myer. Her books get so much hype and I definitely see why! Cinder was a great start to the Lunar Chronicles series.

Synopsis:

Cinder lives in New Beijing. A deadly disease caused by Lunars is sweeping over the commonwealth. One day, Cinder's stepsister, Peaunie, falls ill. Cinder works as a mechanic and provides her family's main income. When Prince Kai ends up coming to her shop, she's stunned. A romance starts to bud but Cinder is keeping a secret from Kai. If he knew she was a cyborg, he might- he wouldn't love her.

Toyko Ever After by Emiko Jean

Rating: 4 stars

Tokyo Ever After is perfect for fans of The Princess Diaries. I loved Izumi. Her little romance with Aiko was so cute!

Synopsis:

 Izumi never felt like she fit in. She has lived in California all her life. She never knew her father but, she finds out something about him that shocks her. Her father is non-other than the crown prince of Japan, meaning Izumi is a princess. When she gets an invitation to travel to Toyko to meet her father, she goes immediately, leaving California behind. When she gets to Japan, Izumi finds that there are more struggles to being a princess than she thought.

The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant

Rating: 5 stars

The Court of Miracles is a recent favorite of mine. This Les Mis retelling had me hooked from the very beginning.

Their journey takes the girls from the darkest corners of the Miracle Court to the fabulous palace of King Louis XVII. Nina soon finds that saving her sister comes with a cost. If she goes through with her plans, Nina will set off a war between the guilds.

The Odd Sisters by Serena Valentino

Rating: 4 stars

Series: Villians book 6

Synopsis:

Though out the Villains series, the Odd Sisters have messed up everyone's lives. They've manipulated the Beast, the Evil Queen, Ursula, Malicafent, and Mother Gothel. Now, it's time for the fairies to chose the Sister's fate. Meanwhile, Circe and Snow White dive deeper into the Sister's shocking past. Their dark truth we finally emerge from beneath the shadows.

Sing Me Forgotten by Jessica S. Olsen

Rating: 3 stars

Sing Me Forgotten is a gender-bent Phantom of the Oprea retelling. Though I'm not too familiar with the musical, I thought it was a clever take on the story.

Synopsis:

 Idsa has lived in the opera house her whole life. In exchange for shelter, she's supposed to stay in the shadows and not talk to anyone. One day, Idsa breaks that rule to talk to Emeric. His voice is unlike anything Idsa has ever heard and soon, she starts mentoring him. As Idsa spends more time with Emeric, her feelings for him start to grow. Soon, Idsa decides that it's time she takes control of her own destiny and breaks out of her gilded cage.

Series: Matched book 2

Synopsis:

Cassia has been sent to a work camp in hopes of finding Ky. She has one last chance but doesn't know if they will be reunited. At the same time, Ky is at another work camp.  He hopes every day to see Cassia again. Cassia soon finds out about a rebellion rising. She was overjoyed about it. But the rising destroyed Ky's family.

Instant Karma by Marissa Myer

Rating: 5 stars

By this point, I've read a fair amount of Marissa Myer's books. My favorite is definitely Instant Karma. It was so much better than I thought it would be.

Synopsis:

Prudence is an overachiever and wants more than just a life in her small coastal town of Fortuna Bay. One day, Pru wakes up to find that she has the power to intact instant karma on anyone she wishes. While Pru is hard at work punishing anyone she pleases, her powers seem to constantly backfire on one person: Quint Erickson. When Pru finds herself working at an animal rescue center, she uncovers the truth of why her powers won't work on Quint and why the rescue seems to be struggling so much.

Rating: 4 stars

Series: Twisted Tales

I feel like each book in this series just keeps getting better and better! I love seeing the spin the Twisted Tales series puts on these classic stories.

Synopsis:

What if Anna and Elsa never knew each other? After a terrible accident when they were young, Anna and Elsa were separated for protection. Years later when the queen and king die, Elsa's memory comes rushing back as she discovers her startling new powers. On the day of Elsa's coronation, Anna's memories start to come back too. They set her on a quest to find her lost sister. But the curse is keeping them apart and they'll have to give everything to have to be reunited.

The Henna Wars by Abida Jairdagra

Rating: 5 stars

The Henna Wars was an adorable book! This cute romance is perfect for anyone looking for pride month recs!

Synopsis:

When Nishat comes out to her parents, they don't accept her as who she is. They say Nishat can be whoever she wants as long as she's not herself. They also say Muslim girls aren't lesbians. Nishat can't hide who she is, but she also can't lose her family. In a world where no one else seems to except her besides her family, Nishat is running out of people she can confide in. As if that wasn't bad enough, an old friend from her childhood comes back into her life. Nishat falls for Flávia right away. When a school competition has students create their own business, Nishat and Flávia both chose to do henna, even though Flávia would be appropriating Nishat's culture.
