March Book Haul

Image
If you saw my book haul from February, you know that I got a lot of books last month. I didn't think I would find myself going back to the bookstore anytime soon, but here I am with six new books on my TBR! Thunderhead  by Neal Shusterman This is the only book on this list that I read already. I loved Thunderhead so much! This is one of the best sequels I've ever read. Each part had me hooked and I am so excited to get The Toll. Synopsis: A year after Citra was supposed to kill Rowan, he lives on the run as the infamous Scythe Lucifer. He kills the corrupt scythes in the scythdom, but his acts of rebellion have placed a faint target on his back. Citra does her duty day by day as the honorable Scythe Anastasia. But someone is targeting Citra and Scythe Curie. Someone who wants to end their lives. Warstorm  by Victoria Aveyard It seems like forever since I started reading Red Queen  for the first time. I'm so excited that I finally have the sequel. I can't wait to see ho

The Prince and the Troll by Rainbow Rowell

Image
When a man accidentally drops his phone off a bridge, it feels like fate. The bridge troll rescues it for him, an unlikely friendship blooms. But it could be more of a friendship. But with a prince and a troll could happily ever after actually be a reality for them?     The Prince and the Troll was such a cute novella and I enjoyed it a lot. The Faraway series sounded so interesting to me and I was super happy with the first book. I'm super excited to read the rest of the books and I have super high hopes for this series as a whole.     This book was super cute. Set in a modern-day world, I loved how Adam (the man) would bring the bridge troll Starbucks every day. It was adorable watching the two bond over coffee.     The ending of The Prince and the Troll  was so sad! It made my heartache! I love when a book can tug at my heartstrings and Rainbow Rowell definitely did that with this novella.     To anyone who has Kindle Unlimited, this entire series is free so it's definitel

The End of Oz by Danielle Paige

Image
I know I said this last time, but it's finally time for Dorothy to die. Also, we gotta defeat the Nome King who just kinda showed up outta nowhere. Also, Amy and Nox have some relationship problems to work out. Madison (remember that girl who was only present for like two pages in the very beginning of the first book?) is also there.     The Dorothy Must Die series comes to an exciting close with the fourth and final novel of the series. Like the last book, Amy was so FREAKING ANNOYING! Like to the point where I really wish she wasn't the  one narrating this book,      The End of Oz  switched between Dorothys and Amy's POV. I loved getting to see what was going on with Dorothy. Despite the way she's described by Amy, she is so much more chill and bearable than Amy. Is it bad that I like the villain better?     I had a really hard time picking this book up. It felt really long and the plot really wasn't going anywhere. I like I said in my review for Yellow Brick War

Yellow Brick War by Danielle Paige

Amy has finally ( finally ) gathered all the things she needs to kill Dorothy. Now she is ready to kill Dorothy. But SURPRISE she has a new challenge to overcome. Amy and the witches are back in Kansas and to get to Oz, Amy will have to find Dorothy's magic shoes. Surprise number two: there might be a dangerous new villain to fight too! (GASP)     First off, Amy is so annoying Like soooo annoying. Her relationship with Nox is up and down. Up and down. UP AND DOWN. Amy gets mad over the tiniest things. NOX HAS A LIFE TOO! But this girl just thinks she's the only thing in the universe that matters. She's not the only character but still.      Now we got this new villain showing up in Oz but if you ask me, it's completely unneeded. Dorothy just could have died in this book and everything should have ended there. It would have been much better.     Now, this isn't really that important but I wish the spine of this book was yellow. Each book has a different colored spine

Recent Reads

Image
With only one week left in March, I've read 11 books but I hope to read a few more. Today I'll be talking about a few of my recent reads. The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle Dates read: February 27 - March 6      I love that the  Sherlock Holmes  novels are so short so it's easy to just fly through them. So far, my favorite book in this series has been  The Hound of Baskervilles.  I recently got a graphic novel of  The Hound of Baskervilles  so I'm excited to read more Arthur Conan Doyle books. Synopsis:      Ten years ago, Mary Morton's father vanished. Four years later, pearls began arriving. There were six in total and she ended up with a mysterious indentation to meet the sender. Miss Morton hires Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in hopes that they will accompany her and solve her father's disappearance. The only clue she has though is a map of a fortress with the name of four strangers. Asylum by Madeline Roux Dates read: March 3 - March 6      I loved  A

I finished the Dorothy Must Die series...

Image
Four books and three collections of novellas later, I finally finished Dorothy Must Die . Now I think the first book in this series was absolutely amazing! The second book was okay, but the last two were terrible and I'm going to tell you why. Dorothy Must Die      I want to start by talking about the first book in this series. Dorothy Must Die . It was an amazing start to the series. I loved it and I was obsessed with it. It sucked me right in. I think I read the book in like two days. That's how much I loved it.      I thought that the concept was so, so cool. Dorothy being evil was something that intrigued me so much. I think this book would have been better as a standalone though. If Dorothy had died at the end of the book, it would have been so much better.      I hate the synopsis from the back of the book. It's a total misnomer. Amy talks about how she has to take the lion's courage, take the scarecrow's brain, and the tin woodman's heart before

The Wicked Will Rise by Danielle Paige

Image
As Amy watches the Emerald City burns down, she knows that it's time for the wicked to rise. She has the Tin Woodman's heart but before she can kill Dorothy, she must take the Lion's courage and the Scarcows brain. The members of the Order are missing and now Amy is stuck with Ozma.     For most of the book, Amy and Ozma were following the Yellow Brick Road to some castle that really didn't hold any importance. The other half of the book was spent thinking about Nox and babysitting some ditzy princess.     I didn't love The Wicked Will Rise as much as I love Dorothy Must Die , but it was still a good book. It was really short compared to the first book in the series and felt a little rushed.     There was so much character development for Peter and Ozma in this book. And I love Pete! Like Dorothy Must Die , The Wicked Will Rise  ended with a huge cliffhanger. I have no idea where the plot is going since it seems to change every hundred pages or something.      Nox a

Wicked

Image
Though I love musicals, I haven't seen very many on stage. I was so lucky to get to see Wicked  not once, but twice! It was such an amazing show that I loved. Even still, after many years, Wicked  remains one of my favorite musicals. No One Mourns the Wicked Dorothy Must Die  by Danielle Paige I can't think of anyone more wicked than Dorothy herself in Dorothy Must Die . Dear Old Shiz We Hunt the Flame  by Hafsah Faizal  I have to be honest, I don't really like "Dear Old Shiz." It's not that long and there's really no point to the song for this one, I'm just going to pick a book I didn't like. For "Dear Old Shiz," I'm picking We Hunt the Flame . I didn't much care for the book. The Wizard and I The Cruel Prince  by Holly Black In "The Wizard and I," Elphaba sings about her dreams of being more than what she is and working with the wizard. This reminds me of how Jude wanted to prove that she was more than mortal and becom

Five Feet Apart by Racheal Lippincott

Stella Grant has to be in control. The one thing she could never control was her lungs. Stuck with CF, Stella needs new lungs, or else she could die. Will Newman has been transferred from hospital to hospital. Now he's at St. Grace's for a new clinical drug trial. It isn't long before Will catches Stella's eyes. But they know the rule. Six feet apart at all times. But what if they tested their limits? What if instead of six feet, they could be five feet apart? This was such a depressing book! There were so many sad moments that made me want to curl up and cry! One of my favorite characters even ended up dying which broke my heart. Why did I choose to read this book during a pandemic? I didn't love the book at first, but by the end, I couldn't put the book down. I loved Stella and Will. Their relationship was so cute. They had so many sweet moments together. I couldn't imagine a better ending. It was adorable! Besides Stella and Will, I felt really attached

Legend by Marie Lu

Image
The United States is now known as the Republic. June was born into one of the Republic's wealthier families and has sworn her life to serving her country. She's a prodigy destined for greatness. Everything is perfect for her, until her brother's death. Day is one of the Republics' most wanted criminals. People call him heartless but he's not as cruel as he seems. June and Day will uncover secrets about the Republic that will change their lives forever.     I didn't think I'd like this book at first. I started it but then put it down. After a month, I picked it back up, and to my surprise, I ended up loving it!     I liked June and Day as separate characters but their romance wasn't very well put together. I felt like they kind of fell for each other instantly and there wasn't a great build-up to it.     I'm so happy that I gave Marie Lu a second chance after DNFing The Kingdom of Back  last November. I loved Batman: Nightwalker  and Legend was g

My favorite female authors!

Image
Today is Women's Day! I'm here to support my fellow woman by sharing some of my favorite female authors. These girls have all written amazing books and some are seriously unhyped. Happy Women's Day everyone! Jenna Evans Welch     Jenna Evans Welch has been a favorite author of mine for a while now. The Love & Gelato  series is such fun contemporary books but I love how all of them are a little bit more at the same time. I currently own all of her books but the teasers of her next book that she's posted on Instagram have been driving me crazy! I can't wait for it to come out. Her books: Love & Gelato Love & Luck Love & Olives V ictoria Aveyard     Red Queen was one of the first YA books I've read. From the very beginning, I was hooked. It's such a thrilling fantasy series and I couldn't put it down. You can trust that I'm counting down the days for the release of Realm Breaker! Her books: Red Queen Glass Sword King's Cage Serena V

Superman: Dawnbreaker by Matt de Pena

Image
Clark Kent has always had to hide his powers from everyone. No one can know about his superhuman hearing or incredible strength. But then people start disappearing in Smallville. Clark needs the help of his best friend Lana Lang to help him discover where they went before it's too late.     I had really low expectations for Superman: Dawnbreaker . I've never really been interested in Superman in general but Matt de Pena did a fantastic job with this book. In the beginning, I was hooked. The middle of the book was a little boring but the ending was great.     One character that I thought the story could do without was Lex Luthor. He was helping Clark and Lana find out where the missing people were but he didn't actually contribute anything. I kept waiting for Lex to double-cross Clark but that never happened.     There didn't seem to be a lot of action in this book for a superhero novel. Besides the slow pacing, there were very few fight scenes. When there were fights,

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

Dorothy Gale lives in a dull, gray Kansas. After she and her dog Toto get swept up by a tornado, they are stunned to find themselves in Oz. Oz is a land of color and wonder. But Dorothy just wants to go home. And off she goes down the yellow brick road to find the wizard, the only person powerful enough to send her back to Kansas.      The Wonderful Wizard of Oz  is a timeless tale with many retellings. There have been books, movies, and even musicals based off of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz . One thing I was surprised to find about this book is its part of a series. That's right!  The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the first in a fourteen book series. Yes, you read that right. FOURTEEN BOOKS! And I thought A Series of Unfortunate Events  was long...     Anyway, I grew up loving the movie adaptation: The Wizard of Oz . That's why I was so surprised to find that the lines "lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my!" and "there's no place like home" were never used in
