Love & Olives by Jenna Evans Welch

Olive (aka Liv) hasn't seen her father since she was eight. But all that changes when she receives a postcard in the mail. Liv's dad wants her to fly all the way to Greece to shoot a documentary for National Geographic. Together, they're going to finally find Atlantis, the lost city that they bonded over when Liv was little. She isn't totally thrilled at first. Then she meets Theo, her father's cute protege. In just ten days, Liv learns that lost things can be found, including Atlantis.      Love & Olives  was great! I love this book beyond words. At the time of reading this book (around the beginning of August), I was hit by the dreaded curse we readers call the READING SLUMP! (cue the dramatic music.) I'm so glad that I picked up this book because once I started reading, I didn't want to stop.      Not only did I love the story, but I also loved the characters. Jenna Evans Welch has this amazing talent for writing lovable characters that you wish you w

Glader Names: The Maze Runner

Image
*WARNING MAZE RUNNER SPOILERS* In The Maze Runner , every character is nicknamed after a famous scientist. Not everyone's name was very obvious so here's a list of the Glader's names. These ones were said aloud in the book, but I'm including them on the list anyway. Thomas- Thomas Eddison Newt- Issac Newton Alby- Albert Einstien Chuck- Charles Darwin The next few were still fairly obvious but a little harder to figure out. Treasa- Mother Treasa Harriet- Harriet Tubman Henry- Henry Ford Ben- Benjamin Franklin Here are the rest of the names that I didn't find so obvious until I looked them up. Gally- Galileo Gallei Zart- Mozart Aris- Aristotle Lee- Leonardo Davinci Jeff- Thomas Jefferson Nick- Nikola Tesla Clint- Bill Clinton Venice- Vincent Van Gough Frankie- Franklin Roosevelt Here are a few names I want to talk about to give more context. Winston Many fans think that Winston is either Winston Churchill or Robert Winston. Personal

Top 5 Books On My TBR

Image
If you're like me, then you have a bunch of unread books on your TBR. But no matter what, we all have those few books that stand out from the rest. So here are the top 5 books from my enormous TBR. 5. Little Woman by Lousia May Alcott Ever since I saw the movie last year, I've wanted to read this book. The only reason I haven't read it yet is that it just so big. Hate to say it but I'm a little intimidated by the size of this book.   The March sisters couldn't be more different but they also couldn't love each other more. Their fathers away at war and their mother always seem to be busy. They only have each other to rely on but they can't help but worry for their parents. 4. Dorothy Must Die Stories by Danielle Paige I really loved the first book and the second book was okay. The last two books in this series however were total let downs. I'm hoping that the collections of novels will give the Dorothy Must Die  series a chance to redeem itself. 3. The A

The Scorch Trails by James Dashner

If you thought solving the maze was the end, you were wrong. WICKED has new plans for the Gladers. Phase two has begun and the Gladers find that they have the Flare. The only way to survive is to cross the desert and make it to a safe haven. They only have two weeks to do it. The odds seem to be against them though as WICKED plays with their feelings, friendships, and even their own thoughts. It will take determination and strong will to survive the Scorch.      So I'm going to put out a quick disclaimer saying that THIS BOOK WILL CRUSH YOUR SOUL! I loved this book. Like The Maze Runner , I listened to the audiobook. The Scorch Trials  was just as amazing as it's predecessor. In this book, the Gladers have to cross the Scorch which was a huge dessert.      There's so much more drama in this book as a small love triangle forms. A whole new band of characters is introduced too.      Some of the characters were annoying (i.e. Brenda and Teresa). The Scorch Trials  wasn't a

Miss. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children: Book VS Movie

Image
I read the Miss Peregrines Peculiar Children series last summer and loved it. I reviewed the first book and the companion book so I will link those at the bottom of this post. Just a warning, there will be major movie suppliers and small book spoilers. If you're looking for a movie that sticks to the book, this is not it. They switched characters around, changed the whole ending, and took many great scenes from the book. There were also a lot of changes such as Emma's grotto and the museum scene. So let's start with the main difference that changes everything. In the books, Emma was Jacobs's love interest. That stays the same. But now, Emma has Olives peculiarity. She's as light as air and wears the lead shoes to keep herself from floating away. Movie Olive has fire powers. In the book, Olive is about five years old. In the movie, she is sixteen maybe. Olive is now given a love interest with Enoch who is maybe eighteen now. Characters such as Ricky are taken out o

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

Thomas can't remember anything. He doesn't remember his life before he came to the Glade. The Glade is surrounded by a huge maze. Gladers run out there every day but yet they can't find a way out. The walls are always moving, always changing. At night, they are full of dangerous monsters called Grievers- beasts that could kill. Shortly after Thomas arrives, something strange happens. A girl arrives. The first girl to ever come to the Glade. And now, more than ever,  the GLaders are determined to escape, but few will survive.         Oh my gosh, where do I begin? First, The Maze Runner  is amazing! I love it! After only one book, The Maze Runner  has become one of my favorite dystopian novels. The book is set within a post-apocalyptic world. I felt like I was right there with Thomas, especially in the beginning.         I think the world-building was great but it could have been better. Like Thomas, I was so confused in the beginning. I had no idea what was going on. I f

5 Book Series I Still Need to Finish

Image
As most of you know, I'm GREAT at finishing series... That's a lie. Definitely. There's no way in a million years that would ever happen. But I still try it anyway! So without farther ado, here's five series I still  haven't finished! 5. Onyx & Ivory  by Mindee Arnett It's been a year (maybe more) since I read this book and guess who still hasn't read the sequel! Onyx & Ivory was so captivating and yet I still forget about it every time I go to buy books!  Onyx & Ivory  book review! 4. The Maze Runner  by James Dashner There are five books in this series! The only reason I've been able to get to book two is that I've been listening to the audiobooks. But then I got distracted with other things so I never got to The Death Cure . The first two books are incredibly suspenseful.  3. Ms. Peregirnes Home for Peculiar Children  by Ransom Riggs I binged this whole series last summer. I even counted down the days until th

Charming as a Verb by Ben Philippe

Image
Henri Halitwagner has always been able to charm anyone. Anyone except Corinne. When she discovers his less than honest dog-walking scheme, Corinne blackmails Henri into helping her change her image. What started out as a mutual hustle to survive their last year of high school turns into a blooming romance.         Charming as a Verb  was an adorable book. It had loads of quick-wit humor and lots of cute moments. Henri was a good character but there were some moments where I just wanted to scream at him. His dreams to attend Columbia university lead him to do some of the dumbest stuff ever that leave me wanting to yell at him.         Needless to say, Charming as a Verb  took me on a wild rollercoaster of emotions. It was up and down the whole time. Henri and Corinne were a really cute couple but they fell for each other almost instantly. There really wasn't any buildup and it happened really fast.         There was a lot of stuff to do with collage in this book. Everyone was wor

Let's Book Talk: My Plain Jane

Image
I loved My Plain Jane  so much! There is just so much to talk about so let's get started! Make sure to tell me your thoughts about these chilling twists in the comments! *SPOILER ALERT* Mr. Rochester I hated this guy from the beginning.  When Mr. Rochester proposed to Jane, I was screaming at them through the page. I was stunned when he passed Jane. Then when I found out that he himself was passed! Gosh, so many plot twists. The Duke I felt indifferent about the Duke at first. I mean I didn't dislike him but he also wasn't a character I loved. But then I found out how evil this dude was! I hate him! I can't believe he would try and take control of England like that. I never saw that coming. I was stunned when I found out he was going to possess King George. I was also really surprised to find that Wellington killed Mr. Blackwood's father. (Can you say plot twist?) Charlotte and Mr. Blackwood They were a cute couple. At first, I didn't really

September TBR

Image
Now that I'm finally over my reading slump, I have a long list of books that I'm going to read this month. So here's my September TBR! Charming As A Verb  by Ben Philippe I actually already started this book and it's pretty good! I have an ARC copy but the official release date for  Charming As A Verb  is September 8!  Henri could charm anyone. Anyone except Corinne. When she discovers he's not so honest dog-walking scheme, she blackmails him into helping her change her image. Eragon  by Christopher Palloni Eragon  has been a series I wanted to start for a while. This will finally be the month I read it! Eragon finds a polish stone in the woods and is overjoyed. What he doesn't know is that the stone is actually a dragon egg. He then discovers a legacy that changes his life forever.  Glass Sword  by Victoria Aveyard I read  Red Queen  almost a year ago. Now I finally have the sequel and I'm really excited to see what happens to Mare and Cal!
