Reached by Ally Condie

Cassia, Ky, and Xander are all part of the rising. They are helping to take down the Society and let the Rising succeed. Now, a plague is spreading through the Society at a rapid rate. When it mutates, there is no cure in sight. It's up to our three main protagonists to help save the Rising/Society and find a cure.  First off can I just say how happy I am to FINALLY finish this series? These characters are so exhausting. They are always switching their love interests. LIKE SERIOUSLY CHOSE SOMEONE ALREADY! It was so annoying. The only person in the whole book who never questioned who they loved was Cassia which is kinda surprising considering that she spent the first two books trying to decide if she liked Xander or Ky best. Really though, the whole plot of this series is deciding between Xander and Ky but that's totally abandoned in Reached . You know what though, I'm happy that Xander finally found someone. He shouldn't end up lonely because he is the least annoying ch

I feel like every time I tell myself to stop buying more books, I go to the bookstore the very next day! It turns out I can do some real damage at Barnes & Noble when I have several gift cards. Shadow and Bone trilogy by Leigh Bardugo  There has been so much hype surrounding Leigh Bardugo's Shadow and Bone series. I can't believe it's taken me this long to get the books. I am so excited to start this series! Last month, I watched the Netflix series and became obsessed with the characters. Goodreads synopsis: Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee. Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life- a power that could be the key to setting

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Death has never been so busy. Liesel Meminger has had a tough life. With her brother dead and a new family in a new town, sadness has taken over her night. On top of that all, Nazi Germany is on the rise. And Liesel's family hides the most dangerous secret. A secret that could drive the family apart and get them all killed. With Liesel's new friends and stolen books, she learns to fit in with the new German lifestyle.     Markus Zusak created one of the saddest books ever. If you do choose to read this book, be ready for a heart breaker. There were so many parts in this book that made me want to cry. I loved that this book was narrated by Death. It was such an interesting POV and I really enjoyed that part of the book.      The Book Thief was so beautifully written and heartbreaking. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone. This was such a deep and meaningful book. The characters were so created amazingly and I loved the story. Page Count: 500 pages Published: March

Mays almost over! This month has been great. I recently took a trip to Barnes and Noble to get the Shadow and Bone  and Six of Crows  series so I'll be starting those soon! I'm so excited to read both books. Ever since I watched the Netflix series, I've been obsessed with the Crows. For now, though, here are six books that I've read recently. Go the Distance  by Jen Calonita Dates read: May 12- May 14 Go the Distance  is the latest installment in the Twisted Tales  series. I love each book in this series more and more. It would be so hard to choose a favorite, but this one is definitely high up on my list.   Synopsis:   What if Meg had to become a god? After Hercules defeats Hades, he becomes a god on Mount Olympus. When Zeus tells Meg she can't be with Hercules because she's mortal, she's absolutely crushed. Luckily, Hera offers Meg a chance to become a goddess. All she has to do is go on a dangerous quest. Meg must save her ex's current wife from the u

Frozen

Although Frozen  definitely isn't my favorite Disney movie, the Broadway version has some great songs! I recently reviewed Conceal, Don't Feel  which is one of Disney's Twisted Tales  books. It put such a fun spin on the original film! Do You Want to Build a Snowman A Study in Charlotte  by Brittany Cavallaro Anna and Elsa have the same type of closed-off friendship that Jamie and Charlotte have. While Jamie just wants to be in her life, Charlotte was constantly pushing him away. Synopsis: The last place Jamie Watson wants to be is at Sherringford, a boarding school in Connecticut. However, things seem to get more interesting when he meets Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective's great-great-great-granddaughter. She's not only inherited Sherlock's intelligence but his love of solving crimes too. When a student at Sherringford is suspiciously murdered, blame is instantly placed on Charlotte and Jamie. Together, the two will have to work tirelessly to clear their

The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar

When Nishat comes out to her parents, they don't accept her as who she is. They say Nishat can be whoever she wants as long as she's not herself. They also say Muslim girls aren't lesbians. Nishat can't hide who she is, but she also can't lose her family. In a world where no one else seems to except her besides her family, Nishat is running out of people she can confide in. As if that wasn't bad enough, an old friend from her childhood comes back into her life. Nishat falls for Flávia right away. When a school competition has students create their own business, Nishat and Flávia both chose to do henna, even though Flávia would be appropriating Nishat's culture. The Henna Wars  is officially my favorite rom-com! This book is definitely in my top 10 favorites of all time. I felt so emotionally involved in this story it wasn't even funny. The Henna Wars  seemed to be over too quickly. I loved Nishat and  Flávia's relationship. They were an adorable cou

Conceal, Don't Feel

What if Anna and Elsa never knew each other? After a terrible accident when they were young, Anna and Elsa were separated for protection. Years later when the queen and king die, Elsa's memory comes rushing back as she discovers her startling new powers. On the day of Elsa's coronation, Anna's memories start to come back too. They set her on a quest to find her lost sister. But the curse is keeping them apart and they'll have to give everything to have to be reunited. I really enjoyed Conceal Don't Feel . It had much faster pacing than the other Twisted Tales  books. It was defiantly better than Part of Your World  and As Old as Time  (sorry Liz Braswell, I still love Straight On Till Morning and Unbirthday). I also NEED to read the other Jen Calonita books. I believe the only other one she wrote was Mirror Mirror . She's also writing the next novel in the series, Go the Distance . I'm so excited for that one! I liked the concept. I think the question pose

Instant Karma by Marissa Myers

Image
Prudence is an overachiever and wants more than just a life in her small coastal town of Fortuna Bay. One day, Pru wakes up to find that she has the power to intact instant karma on anyone she wishes. While Pru is hard at work punishing anyone she pleases, her powers seem to constantly backfire on one person: Quint Erickson. When Pru finds herself working at an animal rescue center, she uncovers the truth of why her powers won't work on Quint and why the rescue seems to be struggling so much. I loved this book so much! It is undoubtedly one of my favorite reads of 2021. I couldn't put this book down because I loved it so much. Instant Karma  was way better than any of Marissa Myers's other books (including The Lunar Chronicles ). I love Quint and Pru. They are such a great couple! Because everyone loves this trope, I'll go ahead and say that this is an enemy to lovers romance. No doubt that this is my favorite enemy to lovers. Pru and Quint initially hated each other an

Crossed by Ally Condie

Cassia has been sent to a work camp in hopes of finding Ky. She has one last chance but doesn't know if they will be reunited. At the same time, Ky is at another work camp.  He hopes every day to see Cassia again. Cassia soon finds out about a rebellion rising. She was overjoyed about it. But the rising destroyed Ky's family. If you read my review for Matched , then you'll know that I didn't really like the book. Despite that, I decided to read  Crossed . I listened to the audiobook instead of physically reading the book which worked out in my favor. Unlike Matched , Crossed  was told from two different POVs. Cassia and Ky. Even better, the audio was narrated by two different people. The audiobook for Reached has three narrators listed so maybe we'll get to see Xanders POV too? I liked Crossed  a lot better than Matched . The book went by much faster and I enjoyed it so much more. I'm starting to like the Matched Trilogy  a little bit more. I still don't lik

Sing Me Forgotten by Jessica S. Olsen

Idsa has lived in the opera house her whole life. In exchange for shelter, she's supposed to stay in the shadows and not talk to anyone. One day, Idsa breaks that rule to talk to Emeric. His voice is unlike anything Idsa has ever heard and soon, she starts mentoring him. As Idsa spends more time with Emeric, her feelings for him start to grow. Soon, Idsa decides that it's time she takes control of her own destiny and breaks out of her gilded cage. Every musical-related book I've read so far has gotten five (sometimes four) stars. Unfortunately, this Phantom of the Opera retelling wasn't the same. I still liked it. The first half of the book was really great, but the second half completely lost my attention. I haven't seen the original Phantom of the Oprea  so I can't really comment on how close to the original story this book is, but I did love the fact that this whole thing was gender-bent! It was an interesting take and one that I haven't seen often.  Sin

Currently, I'm halfway through Caraval  by Stephanie Garber which is simply stunning! XOXO  by Axie Oh Dates read: May 3- May 4 I was so lucky to receive an ARC of this book.  XOXO  was so great! She's always known what she's wanted to do in the future. After attending Manhatten Music School, she wants to become part of an orchestra. Jaewoo is a member of an up-and-coming k-pop group. The Odd Sisters by Serena Valentino

Though out the Villains series, the Odd Sisters have messed up everyone's lives. They've manipulated the Beast, the Evil Queen, Ursula, Malicafent, and Mother Gothel. Now, it's time for the fairies to chose the Sister's fate. Meanwhile, Circe and Snow White dive deeper into the Sister's shocking past. Their dark truth we finally emerge from beneath the shadows. I was expecting The Odd Sisters  to make me pitty Lucinda, Ruby, and Martha but I still hate them! Unlike the rest of the books in the Villains  series, this book didn't make me feel bad at all for the book's main villain. Now that I've talked about the sisters, I'll talk a little bit about the other characters in this book. Circe was nice and she kept the story moving. I enjoyed her, but she seemed like the only character on the side of good with a conflict. She had something that she was searching for and compared to the other characters, she was really fun. Snow White was such a dull charac

The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant

Nina is part of the Guild of Thieves.  Her midnight robberies were the only thing keeping her from meeting the same fate as her sister Azelma. When her adopted sister, Cosette (known as Ettie), catches the eye of the Tiger, the feared Lord of the Guild of Flesh. Nina becomes determined to keep Ettie safe before she can meet a fate worse than death. Their journey takes the girls from the darkest corners of the Miracle Court to the fabulous palace of King Louis XVII. Nina soon finds that saving her sister comes with a cost. If she goes through with her plans, Nina will set off a war between the guilds. The Court of Miracles  was amazing beyond words. I loved this book so much. It's definitely a new favorite. Of course, going into this book, I was expecting to like it. I just loved it so much more than I thought I would. I loved Nina. She was either all in or all out and I thought that was amazing! She was so determined to save Ettie. If I had a big sister, I would want one just like

A Little Bit Wicked by Kirstein Chenoweth

Image
A Little Bit Wicked is Kirstein Chenoweth's autobiography. She talks a little bit about her childhood but the book mainly focuses on her acting career on Broadway and on TV. Kirstein talks about the long road to stardom, her rocky dating life, and shared many hilarious stories. There were also many things she talked about that I would have never known about her otherwise.      A Little Bit Wicked was full of stories. My favorite was about the designer handbag stalker. I listened to the audiobook and not on;y was it narrated by Kirstein, but she also brought in friends to read small excerpts.      For anyone who's been living under a rock for the past few years, Kirstein Chenowith is a huge actress. She's starred in movies such as Hairspray and  The Peanuts Movie . She's also had many different guest appearances in different shows over the years, my favorite being her role as April in Glee.        Kirstein has also been on Broadway. She was Sally in Your a Good Man Ch

A Map of Days by Ransom Riggs Dates read: April 19- April 24 A Map of Days  was the last book I had to reread before The Conference of the Birds. Synopsis: Having defeated the monstrous threat that nearly destroyed the peculiar world, Jacob Portman is back in Flordia. While exploring his grandfather's house with his peculiar friends, Jacob discovers a secret bunker. When his grandfather's old friend and fellow hallow ghast hunter, H, make contact with Jacob, the peculiar children are tasked to help save a peculiar in need.
