Jessica Day George created a wonderful story. I love that this middle-grade book had a bit of romance between our mai

The Pigman by Paul Zindel

Image
Page Count: 182 pages  Published: October 1968 My Rating: 1 star Genre: Contemporary Series: The Pigman  Book 1 Amazon link for The Pigman   It started with a prank. John and Lorraine would have never taken it this far if they knew the consequences. Or maybe they would have. When John and Lorraine end up calling Anglo Pignati, it turns into a blossoming friendship. It wasn't long before John and Lorraine started feeling more comfortable with Mr. Pignati than their own parents. Together, the three friends learn to love and lose in a series of events that ends with one's death.   This definitely isn't a series I'll be continuing. While Paul Zindel didn't wear out the polar opposites troupe too much in the book, you could definitely tell it had one of those "good girl, bad boy" things going on. Their parents were horrible and while Lorraine's mother may have good intentions, her daughter disobeys her time after time. It was clear that Lorraine'

R.J. Julia Book Club Haul (November 2019)

So before I begin I will just explain to you what the book club is. So I'm not sure what the name really is so what this book club basically is everyone reads different books each month. All the books we have to choose are ARC(advanced readers copy) books that come out in a few months. Since this was my first time at the club, I only picked up four books. So, here's my haul! A Castle in the Clouds by Kerstin Gier By the time I get to writing this post, I'm already around 50 pages into this book and so far, it's great! This book comes out in January of 2020, so keep your eyes open for this! So the rest of these books are already out, but the lady running the book club had ARC copies and gave them to us anyway.  The Beholder by Anna Bright Maybe a Mermaid by Josephine Cameron I first found this book at Target over the summer so while no one else wanted it, I took it.  We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal I could never find a

Reader Problems Tag

Image
This is a recent tag, right? RIGHT?! Let's hope so...    Well, I'm currently watching this tag on Ariel Bassett's Book Tube Chanel... I don't that's spelled right but I'm getting no red line under it. So I will link her video and the original video for this tag below. 1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR pile. How in the world do you choose what to read?    I don't choose the book. It will choose me. OR the more common solution, I write down every book I want to read next on an index card and bug my friends until they vote for one. I will send pictures of the pile of choice to friends I won't see that day and I'll also go and ask teachers on a rare occasion. For example, last year, I had one list that included  Sherlock Holmes ,  Alice in Wonderland ,  Fairest of All  by Serena Valentino, and three others. In the end, I ended up reading  Alices Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass  by Lewis Carrol.  2. You're halfw

Rose and the Lost Princess by Holly Webb

Image
Page Count: 256 pages Published: April 1, 2014 My Rating: 1 Star  Genre: Fantasy  Series: Rose Book 2 Amazon link for Rose and the Lost Princess   Rose was nothing more than a lonely orphan. She has never known her parents. But when she leaves the orphanage to go work as a servant for Mr. Frountion, a rich magician, she quickly finds out that she also has magic powers of her own. While she works with Mr. Frountion and her new friend, Freddie, Princess Jane was kidnapped from the castle but then quickly returned. Now, Rose secretly serves as a bodyguard for the princess, working to make sure nothing could harm the princess.    One thing that I saw a lot of in this book was animal abuse. In the fair scene, an elephant is caged at the top of the hill. The cage is described as small and that reminds me of Stella's cage from The One and Only Ivan  if anyone has read that book. When learning magic with Mr. Frountain, they use mice and other household animals to practice co
