May Wrap Up

Image
Another successful reading month! I read 13 books this month which is a record for me. With digital learning ending soon, I'm sure I'll have much more time to read. I posted so much this month and much more fun in coming in June. The Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black Rating: 4 stars The Modern Faerie Tales  had three books in one. I would have given it five stars if book 2 wasn't so boring. My Review Alex & Eliza Rating: 5 stars I loved this book! My Review The Odd 1s Out  by James Rallison Rating: 4 stars The Odd 1s Out was my post for Graphic Novel Wednesday. It includes many stories from the famous YouTube channel, The Odd 1s Out. My Review Love & War  by Melissa de la Cruz Rating: 5 stars Love & War is the second book in the Alex & Eliza  trilogy. My Review All For One  by Melissa de la Cruz Rating: 5 stars This was a beautiful conclusion to the Alex & Eliza series. My Review The Land of S

All the Wrong Questions by Lemony Snicket

Image
Lemony Snicket is a detective and his newest case has stumped him. After being recruited to steal back a priceless object, Lemony finds that things aren't all its cracked up to be. His employer may turn out to be a bad guy hiding and even bigger mystery. And to make it worse, Lemony has been asking all the wrong questions.         All the Wrong Questions  is about Lemony's life before recording the events of the Baudlier children. The book was kind of like a prequel to A Series of Unfortunate Events . Lemony is the only character so far that's in both series.         I like Lemony Snicket's writing style. He'll always take a word or phrase that the reader might not know the meaning of and explain it. He will say something like, "which here means to ___." This is such a noticeable part of Snicket's writing. He used this style in A Series of Unfortunate Events .         Anyway, Snicket included the perfect mix of foreshadowing and cliffhangers in his

Which Charater Form The Betrothed Are You?

I am still in love with The Betrothed and I'm sure if you read, you love it too. That's why I created a quiz to tell us which character we form The Betrothed. I had so much fun creating this quiz and I hope you enjoy it too!        If you read  The Betrothed , there's lots more fun coming! And if you haven't,  here's my review !

The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer

Image
For Alex and Conner's twelfth birthday, they receive a book from their grandmother. After the book starts acting weird, the twins find a magic portal in it. They are transported to The Land of Stories where all their favorite childhood fairytales are real. The only way home, however, it the wishing spell. But here's the catch, the wishing spell can only be used twice and it has already been used once before. The twins find it's a race against the clock because the infamous Evil Queen is also after the spell. The Land of Stories  had been my favorite book series since I was in 6th grade and it's what got me really into reading. Chris Colfer has been one of my favorite authors for the last three years. The Land of Stories  is my favorite middle-grade book. I loved this book so much. I will admit that at first, I thought I would hate the book. You see, my mother tried for a year or two to get me to read the book and I didn't want to. Finally, at a book fair in 6th gr

Which One Of Kiera Cass's Leading Ladies Are You? Let The Tarot Cards Decided!

Image
In honor of The Selection  movie coming out on Netflix, I thought it would be fun to do a tarot card reading to tell us which character we are! How this will work: There will be three cards (face down) in the picture below. Their numbered 1-3 (left to right). Pick one and below will be the same three cards face up. Then I'll explain which card is which character. Pick a card: Here are the same cards turned over: Now I'll explain each card. Card Number 1         The first card is Strength. Strength represents the mastery of emotions. So if you got this card you are undoubtedly Eadlyn. Eadlyn has so many emotions bottled up inside of her during The Heir  and The Crown . She definitely mastered her emotions She has a lot of patience as she goes through her selection process.  Card Number 2         The next card is The Fool. The Fool is often a sign of innocence and spontaneity. Hollis is featured in Kiera Cass's newest book: The Betrothed .

All for One by Melissa de la Cruz

The Hamiltons have made quite a name for themselves as the new nation of America starts to rise. When they aren't throwing extravagant parties, they invited somewhere else. Eliza had recently taken up an intrest in match-making and she and Alex get to watch as a romance almost as great as their own starts to bud. At the same time, Eliza is pregnant with baby Philp. But Alex's new case threatens to change everything.         This is the conclusion to the Alex & Eliza Trilogy  and oh my god I loved it! The little theatre geek inside of me could not handle the title for chapter 8 (Miss Maria Reynolds Walks Into His Life). I loved this series so much! The Alex & Eliza Trilogy  was beautifully written and thrilling at every turn of the page. I can honestly say that this a new favorite series of mine.         If you do end up reading this series, I would recommend Hamilt on and Peggy  by L.M. Elliott. Page Count: 391 pages (hardcover) Published: April 16, 2019 Genre: Hi

Spring Cleaning Book Tag

Image
It's been so long since I've done a book tag! I love doing them but it's so hard to find new ones to try! But it's still  quarantine and I have nothing else to do so here's the Spring Cleaning Book Tag! 1. The Struggle to Get Started A book or series to struggle to begin because of its size         A series that I've been really hesitant about starting is the Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige. There are seven books in total and though I'm sure I'll love them all. I wanted to find a time where I could sit down and read all the books. I'm sure I'll be starting the series soon! 2. Cleaning out the Closet A book or series you want to unhaul         The answer came easy for this one. I would unhaul We Hunt the Flame . This has been the only book I DNFed in the last year or two. I wanted to love this book but it was just so slow for me. If you want to see my full thoughts, here's my review.  3. Opening the Windo

Hamilton Act 1- Books and Music

Image
Hamilton is a very long musical. There were only about two scenes that were talked through. The rest of the show was told through music. A Little Background Info   Hamilton  tells the story of the secretary of treasury Alexander Hamilton. From 1776 when he was just a bastard orphan to 1804 when he dies in a duel, Hamilton is one big emotional roller coaster.  Characters   I'm going to do a quick rundown of the characters first and then we'll start comparing the songs to books. I'm going to talk about Act 1 and Act 2 characters. Feel free to skip this part. This section is mainly a little history lesson. Alexander Hamilton- the main character Aaron Burr (Sir)- First friend, the first enemy of Alexander John Laurens- Alexander's "friend"  HERCULES MULLIGAN- don't knock him down.  Maqauris de Lafayette- a bagauette King George- King of England, he will kill your friends and family to remind you of his love Samuel Se

Love & War by Melissa de la Cruz

Image
Alex and Eliza are now married. They love each other too much to put into words. They are ready to start their life. But the war is not done. Alexander returns to fight while Eliza stays at home. Finally when the war is won Alex and Eliza try to navigate their new marriage.         I loved this book so much! Love & War  follows the events of Alexander and Eliza Hamilton during the end of the Revolutionary War. When the war does end, the two struggle to be happy while being married. Alexander is consumed by his work as a lawyer and Eliza feels like he's drifting away.         I love the covers on this series. The covers go in order of the Schuyler Sisters: pink, blue, and yellow. This is the second book in the Alex & Eliza series. This series is about America's greatest love story: Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler. This has quickly become one of my favorite series. Page Count: 368 pages (Hardcover) Published: April 17, 2018 Genre: Historical Fiction Series: A

10 Things Hamilton the Musical Got Wrong

Image
The musical phenomena Hamilton  is one amazing history lesson. But among the million facts it gave us, there were some falsehoods. Today, I will uncover 10 things Hamilton got wrong. NUMBER 1! I'm a girl in a world in which my only job is to marry rich. My father has no sons so I'm the one who has to soical climb for him. -Satisfied   That is in fact false. Cathrine Schuylar had 15 children, including the three famed Schuylar sisters.  Cathrine and Philp Schuylar had at least 5 boys and 6 girls. They lost 7 of their children before they became adults, however. Not much is known about the younger Schuylar children. NUMBER 2!    I'm going to talk about Angelica one last time (pun intended). In the song satisfied, we find out that Angelica has a crush on Hamilton. This was not true. Angelica was not single but already married during the ball of 1780.    Later, during Non-Stop, we find that Angelica got married to a wealthy man. She says:  I have found a

Here's A Music Playlist For After You Read The Betrothed

Image
It's been almost a month since I read The Betrothed  by Kiera Cass and I'm still raving about it. Since  The Betrothed  recently came out on May 5, I gathered seven songs that could go along with this book. I'm not really going to give each song an explanation like I do with my books and music  series. Liar- Camila Cabello.  Never Really Over- Katy Perry Flowers- Gabi Demartino Royals- Lorde House of Memories- Panic! At The Disco Into You- Arianna Grande Heavy Crown- Iggy Azalea ft. Ellie Goulding         So that's the playlist! Each song relates to the characters, plot, or book in some way. All these songs reminded me of the book. The Betrothed Review

The Odd 1s Out by James Rallison

Image
The Odd 1s Out book is full of quirky stories from James' younger years. In this illustrated book, fans of the YouTube channel get to see new stories and old favorites such as Harry the Moth. There's a lot to be learned from this book and it was really funny and sometimes relatable.         Heres some background information: The Odd 1s Out is a YouTube channel with millions of subscribers. The channel was started by James who created a webcomic by the same name. In this book, he shares some of his stories with his usual quirky humor. There is also a second book coming out this spring. Page Count: 240 pages Published: July 31, 2018 Genre: Comics Series: The Odd 1s Out  book 1 My Rating: 4 stars This post has been part of my Graphic Novel Wednesday series

Alex & Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz

Image
In the war-torn colonies, Cathrine Schuyler is eager to marry off her three daughters: Angelica, Eliza, and Peggy. The three will find love during the revolution.  1777, a winters ball. Three beautiful girls, three dashing suitors, and a romance that will go down in history (literally). When the aide-de-camp to General Washington stepped into the room, Eliza's heart went boom. But that's not how it went. And so we follow America's greatest love story- Alexander Hamilton and Eliza Schuyler. I for one absolutely loved this book! As soon as I picked it up, I could not put it down! There were so many complications on Alex's and Eliza's road to love. I like that we see a lot of character development between these two. Unlike the musical Hamilton , Alexander and Eliza did not fall instantly in love. Melissa de la Cruz did an amazing job of building the world, the characters, and the plot. There are two other books in this series: Love & War  and All For One . The cove

Let's Book Talk: Alex & Eliza

Image
Today, I'm going to be talking about the Alex & Eliza Trilogy . There will be spoilers for all three books in the series. John Andre         Almost a week before I started reading Alex & Eliza, I finished reading Sophia's War for our history class. John Andre played a big part in that book. After seeing he was in Alex & Eliza I was shocked! My mind was blown when I found out he once proposed to Eliza.  Henry Livingston         Now I want to talk about Henry. Compared to him, Alex doesn't look like a bastard does he? I knew that Alex was going to marry Eliza in the end, but I was still scared that he wouldn't stop the wedding in time. I had no idea that Eliza was ever supposed to marry someone else.  Babies. So Many Babies.          I think almost every female character had a baby. There was Cathrine Schuylar, Angelica, Schuylar, and of course Eliza Schuyler. The FIRST person to have a baby was Angelica. Or maybe it was Cathrine... but yeah

Tarot Card Book Recs.

Image
Besides reading, another hobby of mine is reading tarot cards. Tarot cards are used by physics to tell fortunes. There are two arcana in tarot. The minor arcana has four suits the wands, cups, swords, and pentacles. And there's the major arcana which has a bunch of random cards. Today, I'll be giving you book recommendations based on your tarot card reading.         The most common tarot spreads are always three cards. The cards shown below are numbered 1-3 (left to right). Chose the one you feel most drawn to. Then, I'll give you two book recommendations. Here are the cards turned over: Card Number 1         The first card is Judgment. The Judgment card is part of the major arcana. The Judgment card symbolizes forgiveness. The white bird shown is rising above the others and giving mercy.         The first book rec. for judgment is Love & Luck  by Jenna Evans Welch. Addie and her brother Ian have been fighting all summer. During the book, that
