April Monthly Wrap Up

Image
I had such a great reading month during this first month of quarantine. I've had so much extra time to read and I have been utilizing it. In total, I read eight books this month. Obviously, May will be another month in quarantine so I'm hoping to read eight or nine books. In terms of posting, I've had so much more time to post fun bookish stuff. I'm currently working on a few different posts but there's definitely a lot more to come! Recent Reads

Image
Recent Reads is a post where I go through all the books I've read recently(the past 2-3 weeks). This will be a very relaxed post where I share my thoughts on the books I've read recently. I also talk about anything else bookish that is going on. I've loved a lot of them of the books in this post so let's start. Recent Reads The Mall  by Megan McCafferty     The Mall  was an ARC I received. I've read the Jessica Darlings IT List series by Megan McCafferty so that alone piqued my interest in this book. The Mall  comes out in June. Words on Fire  by Jennifer A. Neilsen     Words on Fire  reminded me a lot of The Book Theif  by Markus Zusak. I had some mixed feelings about this book but for the most part, I liked it. The Mother Goose Diaries  by Chris Colfer    This was the first book I read for the Stay At Home Reading Rush. The Mother Goose Diaries were full of humor. This was also a reread and I think I loved it even more the second time. Queen Red R

Jessica Darling's IT List 2 by Megan McCafferty

After the adventure the last IT List took her on, how could Jessica not follow this one too? Bridget and Jessica's relationship becomes a bit rocky as Jessica also becomes closer to Manda, Sarah, and Hope.  1 BFF < 2 BFFs < 4 BFFS < 8 BFFs < INFINITY BFFs  Have fun with your enemies PARTY!!! When all else fails: candy There is no I in CLIQUE   I, of course, enjoyed this book. It was full of lessons on friendship. Jessica Darling's IT List 2  was full of quicky humor. The storyline was much like the first book: Bethany gives Jessica an IT List, Jessica tries to follow it, the results are better then she could have ever imagined.   This book flew by! It was enjoyable and a pretty light-hearted read. I read this book maybe a year are two ago so this review will be kept short. That's all I have for today so goodbye! Page Count: 208 (Paperback) Published: September 23, 2014 My Rating: 4 stars Series:  Jessica Darling's IT List (Book 2) Genre:

Kiera Cass Wrote A New Book And I LOVE It! (The Betrothed ARC Review)

Image
Hollis has won the love of King Jameson. At first, she is overjoyed, she would be queen. But then she meets someone new. While the king chooses her, she chooses another. And now, Hollis must face the consequences.    A NEW BOOK BY KIERA CASS? YES PLEASE! If you don't know, I love The Selection  series (except for book 5 but that's not the point).  I thought I would have to wait until May for this but I am so happy I got it early. This book was everything I hoped it would be. The Betrothed  has everything you would expect from Kiera Cass: rival lovers, an amazing romance, and a badass protagonist. Fans of Kiera's other books are sure to love this one.      This book was amazing. I loved it so, so much. It was fast-paced and the world was built so well. The characters were also written beautifully. Of course, there were amazing plot twists along the way too! As soon as I picked this book up, it was impossible to put down.     The Betrothed will be a duology which I am so

Tier Ranking Books

Image
I was really bored one day so I decided to do this. Overall I ranked about 45 books. Here is my tier list.   I'm going to go over each tier and the books I've placed there working from the bottom up.  Hate It   So I have four books on this list. These are the books that I hated.    The first book on this list is   Rose and the Lost Princess   by Holly Webb. I remember hating this so much when I read this book.    Out of all the books on the Hate It tier, The Crown is my favorite. I loved the book for the most part but what put it on the Hate It list was the ending. I just couldn't handle the ending. And because I loved The Selection  so much, I just couldn't bear a bad ending. Don't get me wrong, I love Kiera Cass and The Selection  series, I just didn't like the ending.    Shouting at the Rain  was a book I had to read for school and I hated it. This book wasn't as bad as Fish in a Tree  which is by the same author.    The last b

Heathers the Musical (Books and Music)

Image
I love this musical! Although this is not as old of a favorite as Les Mis (which I did last month) Heathers is great!   So I try and relate these types of posts with a book reviewed for that month. So the book to go along with Heathers is The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund. Not only is the movie Heathers mentioned, but the main character is also a movie geek and she loves all the classics. Soundtrack Link (YouTube) Characters    It will be a lot easier to tell the story if first I go through the characters. Veronica Sawyer- first we have Veronica who is our main character. Martha Dunstock- Martha is Veronica's best friend.  Martha is often made fun of and called "Martha Dumptruck". She has a huge crush on Ram. Ram Sweeny- linebacker on the football team. Martha has a crush on him. His best friend is Kurt. Kurt Kelly- quarterback. Ram's best friend.  J.D.- a psychopath. Heather McNamara- head cheerleader.  Heather Duke- runs the yearbook

Stay At Home Reading Rush

I've completed the Stay At Home Reading Rush! For anyone who doesn't know, the  Stay At Home Reading Rush was a reading rush that took place over the weekend. There were four prompts which you can see on my Stay At Home Reading Rush Book Tag + TBR post.   I read four books so I did complete all four prompts. My TBR did change a little. For the prompt "read a book in the same room," I changed from The Odd 1s Out by James Rallison to Pride by Ibi Zoboi. I'm going to break down the days now and tell you what I read. Day 1 (Thursday)   So the reading rush started on Thursday and lasted four days. I finished two books on this day. First, I started out by reading Queen Red Riding Hoods Guide to Royalty by Chris Colfer. I finished that early in the morning and then went onto reading The Mother Goose Diaries . Both were rereads. This was the fourth time I read  Queen Red Riding Hoods Guide to Royalty  and the second time I read  The Mother Goose Diaries . Those we

The Loresmith is the blacksmith who served alongside royals for generations. Ara knows that it is her destiny to become the Loresmith. But she never believed it would come true. The monarchy fell years ago along with the Loresmith. When Princess Nimhea and Prince Emaon take Ara on a quest to fulfill her destiny. The journey takes Ara to new places where she meets Teth, a cunning-and cute- thief. The story is mainly focused on Ara's journey to becoming a Loresmith and less on her romance with Teth. It isn't until the second half of the book where we really get into the romance part. I loved learning about all the legends surrounding the Loresmith and his kingdom. Ara's journey was entertaining. So entertaining that I stayed up until 2 am to finish the book! But hey! Who needs sleep anyway?...it's been a very sleep-deprived week for me... There will be a sequel to this book (yay!). I don't know anything about it yet, but I'm excited to get my hands on it already.

Stay at Home Reading Rush TBR + Tag

Image
The stay at home reading rush is going to take place between April 16-19. There are four prompts to fill out and these prompts will decide what books we read during the reading rush. There is a bigger version of this reading rush over the summer but let's start the TBR. Read a book with a house on the cover   For this prompt, I'm choosing Winterhouse  by Ben Guterson. There is a huge grand house on the cover of this book. I am so excited to start this book because I've been longing for a good mystery. I have both the first and second books in this series so that just makes me even more excited.  Read a book in the same room the whole time   I really only read in one spot anyway so that will be easy. The Odd 1s Out by James Rallison. This book is short and I'll read it quickly which is good if I want to get through all four parts. "The Odd1sOut" is one of my favorite Youtube channels so of course, I had to pick this book up.  Read a  book set somew

Book Haul!!!

Image
There's no WESteen Readers book haul this month so here's another book haul! Love & Luck  by Jenna Evans Welch I finally got this book! After reading Love & Gelato , I just had to have the sequel! This book is about Addie who visits Ireland over the summer for her aunt's wedding. The synopsis said that she'll visit her friend in Italy so I think we're going to get to see more of Lina!!! The Odd 1s Out by James Rallison My favorite (non-book related) YouTube channel is definitely the Odd 1s Out. James's videos are so entertaining. My brothers I will just sit for hours watching his videos so I was obviously going to buy the book at some point. The sequels coming out soon so you can bet I have it on pre-order! Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody and Joanne Rendell Sky Without Stars  is a Les Mis  reimagining of Les Miserables . If you saw my review for A Wish in the Dark , then you already know I'm obsessed with Les Mis .  It&

Audra's world is in danger. She was taught to always avoid the Russian Cossacks that occupy Lithuania. The Cossacks have banned everything Lithuanian- the culture, the language, and the books. After her family is attacked, her parents give Audra a package to deliver to a woman named Milda. Audra knows that when she leaves, her parents will face a terrible fate. She will soon find the secret network of book smugglers will give Audra the courage she needs to save Lithuania.   This book takes place in 1893 when the Russian Empire tried to take control of Lithuania. Audra fights back by smuggling books into small villages. I was on and off with this book. I often found it hard to pick up but once I did, I couldn't put it down.   I didn't think there would be any kind of plot twist until I arrived at it. It was shocking and amazing.   There was a large portion of the book (around 70 pages) that I didn't enjoy. Like I said before, it was hard to pick up this book. But wh

Bina and her friend, Darcy, love to play music together. But for their band to be complete, they need a drummer. When their classmate Enzo volunteers to fill the empty spot, things start to change. To make things even worse, Austin, Bina's best friend, might be interested in her. She isn't ready to date and doesn't know how to react. Now, it's up to Bina to navigate this mess before the music play and she gets lost in the beat.   So apparently this is the second book in the series... but whatever. I haven't read the first book- All Summer Long - which is also about Bina. You don't need to read the first book to understand this one. It made perfect sense. There will also be a third book in this series too.   Anyway, I liked this graphic novel. The art was great and I found it interesting that all the pictures were tinted pink. It makes me interested to see what All Summer Long  and the new book will look like.   I got the ARC of this book at the WESteen Read

Jessica Darling's IT List by Megan McCafferty

Image
Before Jessica Darling started 7th grade, her sister, Bethany, gave her the IT List: the guaranteed guide to popularity, prettiness, and perfection. Bethany was the most popular girl when she was in school, and now, everyone expects Jessica to live up to her sister's legacy. The IT List consists of these four rules: Wear something different every day Make the CHEER TEAM!!! Pick your first boyfriend wisely Stick with the IT clique   Jessica takes her sister's words of wisdom to heart. As she enters her first day of school, Jessica finds that her best friend had left her for popularity. But as Jessica learns to navigate Pineville Juinor High, she finds the IT List is nothing more than a silly list- a silly list that changes her life for the better.    This book is full of sarcastic humor that can only come from Megan McCafferty. The book was short, funny, and light-hearted. I loved it! I haven't read the original Jessica Darling series but I fell in love with Je
