February Book Haul

Image
February was a great month for me. I got some great books this month that I am so excited to share! I ended up getting a lot of my books for my birthday so there are so many new books on my TBR. I ended up getting a lot of mystery books which I love! Dracula by Russel Punter     The first book I got this month was a graphic novel adaptation of Dracula . I haven't read the orgional book yet, though it is a classic I want to read. Goodreads s ynopsis:     Young Lawyer Jonathan Harker journeys to Transylvania to meet with the mysterious Count Dracula only to discover that his nobleman client is a vampire who is thirsty for new blood. After imprisoning Harker in his castle, Dracula travels to England to seduce Jonathan's fianc ée, Mina, and the battle against an ineffable evil begins. Led by philosopher and metaphysician Professor Van Helsing- Dracula's most indomitable adversary- Harker, Mina, and a band of allies entire, determined to confront and destroy the Count before he

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Jude has been living in Faerie ever since she was seven. Living with the man who murdered her parents, it is understandable that Jude's life is terrifying. SHe wants to be something more than a mortal. She wants to be someone powerful. When Prince Dian hires her as a spy, she knows that her time has come. Jude finally gets the chance for power, for victory.     Oh yeah, there's also this prince who's a huge jerk. Why is Carden important? He's the love interest. Er, that's not the right word. There's definitely a spark between him and Jude but no love. Not yet. Carden really doesn't have any purpose in this story though.     I wasn't really sure where the plot of this whole book was going since for the first half Jude just wanted to be a knight. After becoming a spy she finds out some evil plot and that's pretty much it.     At first, I didn't really like The Cruel Prince . Not gonna lie, I thought about DNFing this audiobook once or twice, I'

Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi

Alice is different from everyone else. While her town and everyone in it is bursting with color, she is as white as can be. She hopes every day that her father will come home. And her wish might just come true. When Oliver enlists her help to bring him back. The two venture into a strange land called Furthermore. Together they navigate a strange land in hopes of reuniting Alice's family.     Tahereh Mafi's writing was very unique. It was very fast-paced. She is definitely an author I want to read more of. I've been looking at the Shatter Me  series a lot and I do really want to pick up the first book soon.      Furthermore  reminded me a lot of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Not just because the main character was named Alice but Furthermore itself was very wacky and upside down.     I really liked how the audio was narrated and I'm definitely going to finish the  Furthermore   Page Count: 406 pages Published: August 30, 2016 Genre: Fantasy My Rating: 4 stars Buy

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

Dorothy thought she saved Oz. But she was just the beginning of all their problems. After Dorothy found a way back to Oz, she's been ruling the magical land with an iron fist. She's not the girl from Kansas everyone thought she was. Amy Gumm is the other girl from Kansas. After being recruited by the Order of the Wicked, Amy is going to save Oz. But to do that, Dorthy must die.      Oh my gosh, why did it take me so long to read this book? I LOVED it! Amy was great! She had an adorable romance with Nox that I hope to see more of.      Dorothy Must Die also ended off on a massive cliffhanger. I need to read the sequel ASAP! I couldn't put this book down. It was so exciting and at every turn, I was waiting and waiting for Amy to finally kill Dorothy.     Danielle Paige turned the original story of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz  upside down in this thrilling novel. The good witches were bad, Dorothy couldn't be trusted, her loveable friends were all evil! I love twisted fairy

A Tale of Witchcraft by Chris Colfer

After she changed the world forever, Brystal thought that everything would be fine. Women were no longer suppressed. Magic was welcomed. What could be better? But then a new school opens. A school for witchcraft. And Brystal's friend Lucy walks right into the witches' trap when she discovers the intentions for the school. At the same time, a century-old brotherhood is rising. They are determined to rid the world of magic, starting with Brystal. Okay. Wow. Still not over this book yet. I don't think anyone writes plot twists like Chris Colfer. I'm STILL hung up over this one particular incident. If you loved  Maven from Red Queen , let me tell you, your gonna love this book.  The characters in this book are totally loveable. I already cared for many of the characters that were in A Tale of Magic , but I love some of these new characters. Especially Seven. I love that dude so much. In this book, we were also introduced to the Ravenchrest School of Witchcraft which bought

I've had such a great week! I've read some great books and I can't wait to talk about them, but I also read some that I wasn't too fond of. Part of Your World by Liz Braswell Dates read: January 31 - February 4     The Twisted Tales  series is so much fun to read. I've had the song "Part of Your World" stuck in my head ever since I started reading. I think Liz Braswell's versions were so much cooler than in the Disney movie. Though I loved this book, for the most part, I was a little disappointed with the ending. Synopsis:      Five years after the events of the Little Mermaid, Ariel receives word that King Triton might still be alive. She jumps at the chance to finally right the wrongs of her past. She wasn't expecting Trulia to be so different though. Prince Eric is just waking up from the curse placed upon his kingdom. Together, he and Ariel discover that Ursula has much more sinister things in store for the small oceanside kingdom of Trulia. W

Glass Sword , the second book in Victoria Aveyard's bestselling Red Queen series, was absolutely stunning! It was such a great sequel and the third book, King's Cage  is just as good! Without Me- Halsey Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken- Pink Don't Blame Me- Taylor Swift Burn the House Down- AJR you should see me in a crown- Billie Eilish Centuries- Fall Out Boy Leading the Pack- Sam Tinnesz About Glass Sword Mare Barrow has red blood. Eragon by Christaoher Paolini

Image
Eragon's whole life changes when he stumbles upon a strange stone in the mountains. When the stone turns out to be a dragon egg, Eragon is surrounded by danger. He becomes the first rider in centuries. Now there's a choice to make. The world is going into war and all eyes are on Eragon as he chooses what side to fight for.      At first, I loved Eragon . It was great and so entertaining. After a day, I was hit with yet another reading slump. I never wanted to pick up this book to read. Eventually, I switched over to the audio-book.      The characters were written exactly. I came close to crying during one death and I fell in love with Saphira. My only criticism for the characters (which is more the narrator's fault than Paolini's) was the way  Saphira's voice sounded on the audio-book. I don't know why but I just didn't like the voice, and I don't think it was very fitting for the character. As a dragon, it makes sense that her voice was gruff but I thi

If You Like This, Read This: Fantasy Edition

Image
A while ago I did a post where I recommended books based off of others. Now I'm back with five more books you should read, all of them fantasy! If you like Sky Without Stars  then you should read  A Wish in the Dark     Let's start off with  Sky Without Stars  and A Wish in the Dark . Both books are stunning retellings of Victor Hugo's Les Miserables . I found so many similarities between the books about and Les Mis  making them so of my favorite retellings. A Wish in the Dark  book review If you like  Eragon  then you should read The Rose Legacy      The Rose Legacy  is basically Eragon  but with horses instead of dragons. It has a lot of the same tropes including the chosen one and evil royals. The Rose Legacy  book review If you like A Song Below Water  then you should read Sea Witch     In A Song Below Water , sirens live in secret while the humans around them have no idea they're even there. Sea Witch  takes us to a faraway land where sirens and mermaids are thing
