July Book Haul

Image
It's been a while since I've posted a book haul but I've been to two different books stores this month and I have plenty of new books to talk about! The first three books are from Wealsyn R. J. Julia and the last few are from Barnes & Noble. Glass Sword  by Victoria Aveyard I don't know why it took me so long to get this book. I loved Red Queen so much. Now that I have the sequel, I'm sure Glass Sword will be the next book I read. Eragon  by Christopher Paolini I've heard such great things about this series! I wanted to start it for a while so when I saw it, I knew I had to get it. Scythe by Neal Shusterman Looking at my bookshelves, I noticed that I don't really have a lot of dystopian books. The  Arc of Scythe  trilogy is such a popular series too! Little Woman by Lousia May Alcott A few months ago, I went to go see the new  Little Woman  movie and since then I've wanted to read this book! The Secret Garden  by

5 Books With Gorgeous Covers

Image
Today is another Top 5 Tuesday post! Today I'll be counting down my top five favorite book covers. These books have breathing taking and beautiful covers! My ranking has nothing to do with the story inside and we're just judging by the cover today! 5. A Tale of Magic by Chris Colfer Just look at that beautiful cover! As if the dust jacket was amazing enough, when you take it off, your surprised by an even prettier cover! 4. Onyx & Ivory  by Mindee Arnett The next book on my list is Onyx & Ivory  by Mindee Arnett. The tree on the cover is stunning and the mist that swirls around it just makes the whole cover even better. Book Review 3. Stepsister by Jennifer Donnely Though I didn't enjoy the story inside, Stepsister  has a beautiful cover.  2. Forged in Fire and Stars  by Andrea Robertson The artwork on  Forged in Fire and Stars is beautiful! It looks even better in person. Book Review 1. Sea Witch by Sarah Henning I still

I am so excited today and here's why! Today is the one-year anniversary of my blog! Booked with Abby is officially a year old today! To celebrate the anniversary of my blog, I will be posting every day this week! This blog has evolved so much since I first started it. My book reviews have become so much better too! I've started so many fun mini-series too including musical-themed posts and book talks!   Check out my first post:  Stargirl  by Jerry Spinelli And my latest:  Pride by Ibi Zoboi

Pride by Ibi Zoboi

Zuri Benitez has lived in her small Brooklyn hood as long as she could remember. With her five sisters, life has been perfect. Until the Darcy boys moved into the mini-mansion across the street.  Zuri hates Ainsely and Darius Dacy instantly. Unfortunately, Zuri's older sister, Jeanne, stars to fall for Ainsely. Darius might be catching her eye too. She's trying to hold onto the Bushwick Avenue she knows but things are changing. The hood is dying and love is blooming.         Pride  is a Pride and Prejudice  retelling. Although I've never read  Pride and Prejudice  I loved this book so much! Zuri wrote poems throughout the book. I don't usually like poems, I thought these ones were beautiful. I loved the romance. The enemies to lover troupe were played out perfectly. The characters were written so well and this is definitely a book I would go back and reread.         Pride  reminded me so much of the musical, In the Heights. In the beginning, Zuri talked a lot about sa

Let's Play A Game of Save One Drop One

Hello everybody! Today we'll be playing a game of save one, drop one. You'll be given two choices. Pick which one you want to save and the other will be dropped. Have fun! That's it for today! I loved so many of the books on this list! I wouldn't want to have dropped any of them!

5 Stores Form The 90s That I Would Have Liked To Vist

Image
In honor of  The Mall , we're going back to the 90s to visit 5 stores I wish were still around today. Most of these stores could have been found in the mall back in the 90s. The majority of them closed in the early 2010s. 5. Imaginarium I've heard a lot about Imaginarium over the years. It was a toy store that specialized in crafts, arts, and toys that sparked imagination. This sounds like a place my eight-year-old self would love. Imaginarium closed in 2003. 4. The Nature Compony The Nature Compony was a store that sold different types of rocks or crystals. This seemed like a really cool store but it closed in 2010. 3. Blockbuster Blockbuster was a store full of movies. It also introduced several classics such as Ghost Busters and Jaws. Blockbuster closed in 2013 2. Sam Goody In The Mall , Sam Goody played a large role. Besides being the alias for the cute guy Cassie meets, Sam Goody is also a music store. If you wanted to get a record or CD, Sam Goody was the

Chromatica

Image
I love Lady Gaga's newest album, Chromatica. This month for Books and Music, I'll be pairing each song with a book! Alice I think we can all agree there's no better book for this song than Alice's Adventures in Wonderland . Alice is probably my favorite song on this album. Stupid Love Cassie from  The Mall wants nothing but love as she falls for the boy that works at Sam Goody. It seems like the whole book revolves around love.  The Mall Review Rain On Me To me, I get the message that it's good to be alive. Even if things aren't always going good, at least your alive. Mare's life has been hard but   she's still alive and things do start to look up for her. That's why I'm picking Red Queen  for this song. Red Queen  Review Free Woman Bystral has spent her life living by oppressive rules but eventually, she breaks free, and just like Lady Gaga, she's a free woman. My book for Free Woman is A Tale of Magic  by Chris Colfe

The Elephant's Girl by Celesta Rimington

Image
Lex was swept up by a tornado when she was young. She was found huddled with an elephant named Nyah. Since then, she has lived at the Lexington Zoo with Roger. Lex has always loved the elephants and now that she's twelve, she can start helping out with them. Nyah starts to send Lex telepathic images of the woods outside the zoo. When Lex ventures outside the zoo, she meets a ghost "lost spirit" named Amanda who may be the key to finding out about her past.         I have mixed feelings about The Elephant's Girl . Some parts were good and interesting, but others were really boring. Lex had a predictable personality. There was one great plot twist though. I think part of the reason I didn't love  The Elephant's Girl was that I wasn't really in the mood for middle grade.         The book was very immature and after reading so much YA, I just wanted to keep reading YA. This book is definitely aimed towards someone much younger than me. Maybe around nine or

If You Like This Book, You Should Read...

Image
Today, I'm doing one of the most basic types of book recs. The title is pretty self-explanatory so I'm just going to start. If you like The Selection  you should read  Red Queen  by Victoria Aveyard. Both books are dystopian and deal with royals mistreating the lower society. Red Queen  has a makeshift caste system that's divided by blood color. Both books have an amazing love triangle. The Selection  book review Red Queen  book review If you like Alex & Eliza you should read Hamilton and Peggy  by L.M. Elliott The main reason these two books are grouped together is kinda obvious. They are both about Hamilton. The main difference is one's more centered around Peggy and the other one is about Eliza. Sorry Angelica fans, I have yet to find a book about her. Alex & Eliza  book review Hamilton and Peggy  book review If you like  Onyx & Ivory  then you would like  Forged in Fire and Stars  by Andrea Robertson. I don't have the best expl

Adventures From The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer

Image
The Mother Goose Diaries Mother Goose has had many adventures over the past 500 years. Now that everybody after her is dying out, she's finally publishing her diary. From the time she was just a kid to when she was marching in the Pride Day Parade, this book is full of Mother Goose's thrilling journeys. The Mother Goose Diaries  was full of wisecrack jokes and snarky humor. I loved it! We get to follow Mother Goose as she tampers with history. This was my second time reading the book and I loved it just as much as the first. Mother Goose never ceases to make me laugh out loud. Page Count: 101 pages Published: October 27, 2015 Rating: 5 stars Genre: fantasy Series: The Land of Stories  companion Buy this book! Queen Red Riding Hood's Guide to Royalty Fans of The Land of Stories  already know who Queen Red Riding Hood is. For those of you who don't, she's the first queen of the Red Riding Hood Kingdom. In this book, she shares the secrets to running a successful

Which 90s Fashion Trend Would You Rock?

Image
Since  The Mall  is set in 1991 and the main character works at a fashion boutique, I thought it would be fun to create a quiz to see what 90s fashion trends we have. About The Mall Cassie just got dumped by her boyfriend. And now the plan is going down the drain. On top of that, she loses her job at Americas Best Cookie. But after being reunited with an old friend, Cassie sets off on a treasure hunt around the mall. Things are turning around for Cassie Worthy- especially after she meets Sam Goody.

Check, Please! #Hockey by Ngozi Ukazu

Image
Eric Bittle is a former figure skater, a vlogger, and an amazing baker. Soon he'll be adding hockey player to that long list of talents. It's Eric's freshman year and he'll be playing for Samwells hockey team. But he might not be ready. For one thing, he's terrified of checking.         Eric is so freaking adorable. I completely adored him. He is a great LGBTQ character. I could tell he was gay from the moment I started reading. There is any romance really in the book. There's one chapter where he comes out and another where he has a crush. The crush is kinda forgotten for most of the book.         Eric is also always baking. He loves making pies and I think he's amazing. There were also some parts where we caught him singing along with Beyonce!          Check, Please! is without a doubt my favorite graphic novel. #Hockey  covers Eric's first two years of college. The ending to his sophomore year though- I totally freaked out. The overall story was

Top 5 Fantasy Books

Image
I'm back with another top-five Tuesday post! Today, I'll be talking about my five favorite fantasy books. These books are ranked in how much I enjoyed the overall story and journey the characters went on. 5.  The Modern Faerie Tales The Modern Faerie Tales  by Holly Black is number five on my list. I probably would have ranked it hight if it wasn't for book two in this series. I loved the first book, Tithe , and the third one, Ironside,  but Valiant was such a boring book. Everything that happened in Valiant had nothing to do with Tithe and Ironside . They didn't even have the same characters! Review 4. Forged in Fire and Stars The next book on this list is  Forged in Fire and Stars  by Andrea Robertson. I picked this book up because I heard the author was going to be at Bookcon but obviously BookCon never happened. Still, I really enjoyed this book and I'm excited for the sequel. The cover is also beautiful. Review 3 . Onyx & Ivory Onyx & I
