March Wrap Up (2020)

Image
How is everyone lasting? I'm slowly going insane. This is the eighth day in the row that I am posting. There were so many posts that I did this month so I think it's better if I just jump in and start talking about everything. Book Reviews Blue Skies  by Anne Bustard Rating: 4 stars I think this book was my least favorite out of everything I reviewed this month. It was still a good book. This was another ARC I had but it is out by now. I usually like to post ARCs a month prior to their release but I just forgot about this one for a while. Click here for my review The Tell-Tale Heart  (Graphic Novel+Short Story) by Edgar Allen Poe Rating: 5 stars In this review, I talk about both the graphic novel and the short story.  Click here for my review A Wish in the Dark  by Christina Soontornvat Rating: 5 stars This was another ARC I received. It came out about a week ago. I did so many posts related to this and they're all linked down below. A W

OWLs Readathon TBR/April TBR

So I am doing two different TBR prompt things. I will explain both. O.W.L.s   I'm going to start with the O.W.Ls. O.W.L.s stand for Ordinary Wizarding Level exams. OWLs are an annual thing and take place during April. After the O.W.L.s are completed, we move onto N.E.W.T.s in August.   Now you may be asking yourself, what are the O.W.L.s. In April, G from Book Roast hosts them. There are prompts for each book. First, you pick a career and build your Hogwarts classes off of that. My career is writer/journalist! I have always wanted to be an author when I'm older so I thought this would be a good career. There are three prompts for this one so let's start! Here's the link to the website where you can find all O.W.L.s information The first prompt I have is History of Magic. For that prompt, I have that is witch hunt: a book featuring witches or wizards. For this prompt, I am rereading The Mother Goose Diaries by Chris Colfer. This book is part of The Land of Sto

The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund (ARC Review)

Keely is the last virgin in her grade. She goes to a school full of hot guys but none have ever hit on her. But then she meets James Dean, a college student. Soon, she is catapulted into a world of crushes, relationships, and drinking. But another lover approaches and Keely must decide between the boy of her dreams and the one she never imagined. This book was like one big rom-com. It had humor, romance, and heartfelt moments. It had a love triangle for the last like 50 pages. For the majority of the book, Keely chases James Dean. The reader follows Keely as she tries to navigate the world of sex and alcohol. Keely is in her senior year if high school. I liked this book a lot. The story-line was very interesting and I loved reading about Keely's feelings with the two boys. It was a very educational book for people (like me) who have never had a sex-ed class yet. This is a great book for people in high school.  Anyway, this book was a nice, light read. It only took me about a we

Recent Reads

Image
I am so bored so I'm going to use this post today as a little talk time. I'll talk about the recent books I've read, upcoming reads, and anything else I can think of. Recent Reads   I've read many books since quarantine started and I am going to recap them all. So these are all the books I've read from Friday the 13th to the present day. All these books have reviews coming soon. Number 1: Forged in Fire and Stars  by Andrea Roberston   Forged in Fire and Stars  was one of the books I got at book club this month so of course, its an ARC. Forged in Fire and Stars  comes out in May. Number 2:  All Together Now  by Hope Larson   Yet another ARC! This book is a graphic novel so I will review this on Graphic Novel Wednesday. This one was pretty good. Number 3: Happily Ever After  by Kiera Cass   If you've been following me for a while (or if you sew the page for The Selection ), you know that I am a HUGE Kiera Cass fan. After reading The Bet

The Magic Misfits by Neil Pattrick Harris

Carter is a street magician working with his sly uncle. Together they suck people out of there money with useless street games. But that isn't the life that Carter wants. So Carter runs away and he finds friends, fun, and a mystery. B.B. Bosso arrives with his crew in Mineral Wells around the same time. Bosso is a crook and will take anything he can get his grubby fingers on. After meeting Dante Vernon, Carter teams up with 5 other social outcasts who have an interest in magic. Together, they'll save Mineral Wells from Bosso's vile scheme.   Every few chapters, there would be instructions on how to do a cool magic trick. I couldn't actually get any right, but I loved trying. The narrator of this story had amazing humor and I loved the sarcasm. There was also a representation of LGBTQ characters which is something middle-grade novels often lack.   I know it's not my usual post date but I thought I would post this today anyway since it's shorter than my regula

TBR TAKEDOWN!

Image
We are all quarantined and honestly, I'm getting a little bored. Blogging is really my last hope at staying sane and not going stir crazy. So right now, I'm just going to talk about the books that I have on my TBR shelf. For anyone who doesn't know TBR is an abbreviation for To Be Read. I think I have about 28 books, so let's get started. Series    I'll start by talking about the series that I have to read. I'll have completed series and non-completed series so let's start.  Alex & Eliza  by Melissa de la Cruz I have the complete trilogy and I'm currently reading the first book,  Alex & Eliza. So far it's great! Dorothy Must Die  by Danielle Paige This is another book where the full series is sitting on my TBR shelf. I have all seven books which include the three companions and the four main books. The three books in the series not pictured above are  Dorothy Must Die Vols. 1-3  which is a collection of all the novel

Witch Born by Nicholas Bowling

Alyce is locked up in Bedlam. They say she's mad. Her mother was burned at the checkpoint for being a witch. Now, after months of being locked up, Alyce makes her escape from Bedlam Witchfinders are hunting her and are on her tail. England is separated by two queens. Before long, she finds herself at the center of this battle for the throne. Only one question burns in Alyce's mind: What do two powerful queens want with a witch?   This book was so captivating. Nicholas Bowling was so creative, the world and characters were crafted perfectly. I loved every page of it! This book was engaging that I just couldn't put it down. The story takes place in the mid-1500s when Mary, Queen of Scots, was fighting for England's throne which belonged to Queen Elizabeth I at the time.     Although the book was not centered around Alyce's relationship with Solomon, but there was definitely a spark there. I wished we got to see more romance between them.  Page Count: 313 (
