In the kingdom of Coronam, horses died a long time ago from a terrible plague they carried. Since then, horses have been outlawed. Anthea had been orphaned for as long as she could remember. She's been bounced around from one family member to another. Her life goal is to become a Rose Maiden. But she soon finds out that she'll be moving- yet again- to a new place. Her Uncle Andrew is her next garden. There's one problem though. He lives in exile lands. Even worse, she finds that her uncle and his friends are breeding horses. When their beloved horse ranch faces a great threat, it's up to Anthea to save them.
This exciting start to The Rose Legacy series couldn't have been better! Jessica Day George created a wonderful story. I love that this middle-grade book had a bit of romance between our main character and a boy, but it was nothing too mild. Just a few kisses. Every few chapters we get the horses P.O.V. too, which was something that I loved. If you do like this book, there is one other book currently out: The Queen's Secret. The last book to this trilogy, The Riders Reign will be published on May 12, 2020.
