Recent Reads

Mays almost over! This month has been great. I recently took a trip to Barnes and Noble to get the Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows series so I'll be starting those soon! I'm so excited to read both books. Ever since I watched the Netflix series, I've been obsessed with the Crows. For now, though, here are six books that I've read recently.

Go the Distance by Jen Calonita

Dates read: May 12- May 14

Go the Distance is the latest installment in the Twisted Tales series. I love each book in this series more and more. It would be so hard to choose a favorite, but this one is definitely high up on my list.

Synopsis:

What if Meg had to become a god?

After Hercules defeats Hades, he becomes a god on Mount Olympus. When Zeus tells Meg she can't be with Hercules because she's mortal, she's absolutely crushed. Luckily, Hera offers Meg a chance to become a goddess. All she has to do is go on a dangerous quest. Meg must save her ex's current wife from the underworld.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Dates read: May 13- May 15

There has been so much hype surrounding the Caraval series that I had to check it out. This book did not disappoint!

Synopsis:

Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island she lives on. She's always dreamed of attending Caraval, a glittering spectacle full of games and secrets. After her father arranges a marriage for her, Scarlett finally gets an invitation to attend Caraval. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Scarlett and her sister, Tella, leave the tiny island forever. When they get there, Tella is kidnapped by the mastermind behind Caraval, Legend. This season of Caraval revolves around finding Tella before it's too late.

The Prom by Saundra Mitchell

Dates read: May 14- May 16

One of my favorite movies that came out last year was The Prom. I loved everything about that musical but unfortunately, the book adaptation didn't like up to my expectations.

Synopsis:

All Emma wants to do before graduation is to dance with her girlfriend at senior prom. But everyone in her small Indiana town won't let that happen. Alyssa Greene is the pretty, popular girl at school. She seems like the perfect daughter, but she has a secret. She's been dating Emma for the past year and a half. When people find out that Emma plans to bring a girl as her date, Alyssa's mom (who is president of the PTA) threatens to cancel the prom. The only thing that can save this prom is two Broadway legends: Dee Dee Allen and Barry Glickman.

Legendary by Stephanie Garber

Dates read: May 15- May 20

Legendary is the second book in the Caraval series. It's more about Tella than Scarlett and honestly, Tella wasn't my favorite. If I had to choose between Scarlett and Tella, I'd chose Scarlett every time.

Synopsis:

After Caraval ends, Julian offers for Scarlett and Tella to travel with Caraval to their next stop: Elentine's Palace. She made a desperate deal with a man who could tell her where her mother is. In return, Tella must give him Legend's real name. Lucky for her, the prize of Caraval is Legend's secret identity.

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Dates read: May 19- May 23

The Inheritance Games was such an amazing mystery. I couldn't put this book down. If you love the movie Knives Out then you will adore this book!

Synopsis:

Avery Grambs came from nothing. She's been poor all her life. Tobias Hawthorne is a billionaire. When he dies, he leaves his entire inheritance to Avery, leaving his family nothing. She has no clue why she's been left his entire fortune, or who Tobias Hawthorne even is. To receive the inheritance, Avery must spend a year in Hawthorne House which is occupied by the family who was left nothing. Teamed up with four dangerous Hawthorne brothers, Avery must solve Tobias Hawthorne's last puzzle.

Orphans of the Tide by Strain Murray

Dates read: May 23- May 25

I had a bit of trouble getting through this book. Orphans of the Tide wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't memorable either. It's a book that I'll probably only ever read once then forget about right after. There just wasn't anything unique about it. I saw all the plot twists coming from a mile away.

Synopsis:

The City is haunted by its past. After the gods tried to drown the world, one remained. People are terrified that evil will one day manifest in the Vessel. When a boy washes up upon the shore, the people are convinced that he's the Vessel. Ellie knows that's not true. She makes it her mission to save this boy before he gets killed.
