Miss. Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children: Book VS Movie

I read the Miss Peregrines Peculiar Children series last summer and loved it. I reviewed the first book and the companion book so I will link those at the bottom of this post. Just a warning, there will be major movie suppliers and small book spoilers.

If you're looking for a movie that sticks to the book, this is not it. They switched characters around, changed the whole ending, and took many great scenes from the book.

There were also a lot of changes such as Emma's grotto and the museum scene. So let's start with the main difference that changes everything. In the books, Emma was Jacobs's love interest. That stays the same. But now, Emma has Olives peculiarity. She's as light as air and wears the lead shoes to keep herself from floating away. Movie Olive has fire powers. In the book, Olive is about five years old. In the movie, she is sixteen maybe. Olive is now given a love interest with Enoch who is maybe eighteen now. Characters such as Ricky are taken out of the film.   The film's last half hour is also very different from what happens in any of the books. Mr. Barron (he's not in the books) kidnapped some of the ymbrynes. He tries to finish his experiment with four of his wright friends whom Jake ends up defeating.

Outside is a carnival where the kids defeat four hollowgast. After they are defeated, Jake returns to Flordia, and the peculiar set sail on a sunken ship they raised.

The movie was still entertaining, but most of it was not accurate to the books. I would, of course, say the book was better, but I still liked the movie.
