March Book Haul

If you saw my book haul from February, you know that I got a lot of books last month. I didn't think I would find myself going back to the bookstore anytime soon, but here I am with six new books on my TBR!

Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

This is the only book on this list that I read already. I loved Thunderhead so much! This is one of the best sequels I've ever read. Each part had me hooked and I am so excited to get The Toll.

Synopsis:

A year after Citra was supposed to kill Rowan, he lives on the run as the infamous Scythe Lucifer. He kills the corrupt scythes in the scythdom, but his acts of rebellion have placed a faint target on his back. Citra does her duty day by day as the honorable Scythe Anastasia. But someone is targeting Citra and Scythe Curie. Someone who wants to end their lives.

Warstorm by Victoria Aveyard

It seems like forever since I started reading Red Queen for the first time. I'm so excited that I finally have the sequel. I can't wait to see how this exciting series comes to an end. I'm currently a little more than 200 pages into the book. It's great so far. I love it.

Goodreads synopsis:

Victory comes at a price

Mare Barrow learned this all too well when Cal's betrayal nearly destroyed her. Now determined to protect her heart- and secure freedom for Reds and newbloods like her- Mare resolves to overthrow the kingdom of Norta once and for all... starting with the crown of Maven's head.

But no battle is won alone, and before the Reds may rise as one, Mare must side with the boy who broke her heart in order to defeat the boy who almost broke her. Cal's powerful Silver allies, alongside Mare and the Scarlet Gaurd, prove a formidable force. But Maven is driven by an obsession so deep, he will stop at nothing to have Mare as his own again, even if that means demolishing everything- and everyone- in his path.

War is coming, and all Mare has fought for hangs n the balance. Will victory be enough to topple the Silver kingdoms? Or will the little lightning girl be forever silenced?

Infinity Son by Adam Silvera

I've heard so many good things about Adam Silvera's books so when I saw Infinity Son at Barnes & Noble's the other day, I knew I just had to get it. With the recent release of the sequel, I know I'm going to need to get Infinity Reaper soon.

Goodreads synopsis:

Growing up in New York, brothers Emil and Brighton always idolized the Spell Walkers- a vigilante group sworn to rid the world of specters. While the Spell Walkers and other celestials are born with power, specters take them, violently stealing the essence of endangered magical creatures.

Brighton wishes he had a power so he could the fray. Emil just wants the fighting to stop. The cycle of violence has taken a toll, making it harder for anyone with a power to live peacefully and openly. In this climate of fear, a gang of specters has been growing bolder by the day.

Then in a brawl after a protest, Emil manifests a power of his own- one that puts him right at the heart of the conflict and sets him up to be the heroic Spell Walker Brighton always wanted to be.

Brotherhood, love, and loyalty will be put to the test, and no one will escape the fight unscathed.

A Cuban Girls Guide to Tea and Tomorrow by Laura Taylor Namey

When I read the synopsis of this book, I instantly thought of Love & Gelato. England is a place I've always wanted to travel to so I'm sure that I'll really enjoy this book.

Goodreads synopsis:

For Lila Reyes, a summer in England was never part of the plan. The plan was 1) take over her abuela's role as head baker at their panadería, 2) move in with her best friend after graduation and 3) live happily ever after with her boyfriend. But then the Trifecta happened, and everything- including Lila herself- fell apart.

Worried about Lila's mental health, her parents make a new plan for her: Spend three months with family in Winchester, England, to relax and reset. But the lack of sun, a grumpy inn cook, and a small town lacking Miami flavor (both in food and otherwise), what would be a dream trip for some feels more like a nightmare to Lila... until she meets Orion Maxwell.

A teashop clerk with troubles his own, Orion is determined to help Lila out of her funk and appoints himself as her personal tour guide. From Winchester's drama-filled music scene to the sweeping English countryside, it isn't long before Lila is not only charmed by Orion, but England itself. Soon a new feature is beginning to form in Lila's mind- one that would mean leaving everything she ever planned behind.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The next book I got in March was The Great Gatsby. This another book that I've wanted to read very badly.

Goodreads synopsis:

When Nick Carraway moves to West Egg, Long Island, he has no idea that the mansion next to his modest house is home to Jack Gatsby. Soon thereafter, Nick becomes a close confidant to the ostentatiously wealthy Gatsby and is pulled into his neighbor's regular schedule of riotous parties that draw revelers from the haute monde of New York City. No one knows how Gatsby came by his extravagant wealth- but then, nobody really seems to care.

Eventually, Nick becomes aware of Gatsby's intensity in his cousin Daisy Buchanan, whose residence is located directly across from Gatsby's. When Daisy's brutish husband, Tom, catches wind of Gatsby's designs on Daisy he begins probing into Gaysby's background with a dangerous earnestness.

The Elephant in the Room by Holly Goldberg Sloan

I haven't picked up any middle-grade books in a while and The Elephant in the Room looked really cute so I thought I would pick it up.

Goodreads synopsis:

It's been almost a year since Sila's mother traveled halfway around the world to Turkey, hoping to secure the immigration paperwork that would allow her to return to her family in the United States.

The long separation is almost impossible for Sila to withstand. But things change when Sila accompanies her father (who is a mechanic) outside their Oregon town to fix a truck. There, behind an enormous stone wall, she meets a grandfatherly man who only months before won the state lottery. Their new alliance leads to the rescue of a circus elephant named Veda, and then to a friendship with an unusual boy named Mateo, proving that comfort and hope come in the most unlikely of places.

Tilly and the Bookwanders by Anna James

So while I was in the middle-grade section, I also found this really cute fantasy series called Pages and Co. I picked up the first two books in the series: Tilly and the Bookwanders and Tilly and the Lost Fairytales.

Goodreads synopsis:

Eleven-year-old Tilly has lived above her grandparents' bookshop ever since her mother disappeared shortly after she was born. Like the rest of her family, Tilly loves nothing more than to escape into the pages of her favorite stories.

One day Tilly realizes that classic children's characters are appearing in the shop through the magic of "book wandering" - crossing over from page into real life.

with the help of Anne of Green Gables and Alice in Wonderland, Tilly is determined to solve the mystery of what happened to her mother all those years ago, so she bravely steps into the unknown, unsure of what adventures lie ahead and what dangers she may face.

Tilly and the Lost Fairytales by Anna James

Goodreads synopsis:

Tilly is a bookwanderer; she can travel inside books, and even talk to the character she meets there. But Tilly's powers are put to the test when fairytales start leaking book magic and causing havoc...

On a wintery visit to Paris, Tilly and her best friend Oskar bravely bookwander into the land of fairytales to find that characters are getting lost, stories are all mixed-up, and mysterious plot holes are opening without warning. Can Tilly work out who, or what is behind the chaos so everyone gets their happily-ever-after?

Instant Karma by Marissa Myers

I'm slowly making my way through The Lunar Chronicles which are amazing. I plan to read Instant Karma as soon as I finish Winter. I was at my local indie bookstore (Weaslyn R. J. Julia)  a week ago when I spotted a signed copy of this book so of course, I had to buy it.

Goodreads synopsis:

Chronic overachiever Prudence Barnett is always quick to cast judgment on the lazy, rude, and arrogant residents of her coastal town. Her dreams of karmic justice are fulfilled when, after a night out with her friends, she wakes up with the sudden ability to cast instant karma on those around her.

Pru giddily makes use of the power, punishing everyone from public vandals to mean gossips, but there is one person whom her powers constantly backfire: Quint Erickson, her slacker of a lab partner. Quint is annoyingly cute and impressively noble, especially when it comes to his work with the rescue center for local sea animals.

When Pru resigns herself to working at the rescue center for extra credit, she begins to uncover the truths about baby otters, environmental upheaval, and romantic crossed signals- not necessarily in that order. Her newfound karmic insights reveal how thin the line is between virtue and vanity, generosity and greed, love and hate... and fate.

Bloom by Kevin Panetta

Bloom combines two things I love: queer romances and food. I have no doubt that its graphic novel will be the most adorable thing ever. Out of all of the books I have on this list today, my favorite cover belongs to Bloom.

Goodreads synopsis:

Now that high school is over, Ari is dying to move to the big city with his ultra-hip band- if he can just persuade his dad to let him quit his job at their struggling family bakery. Though he loved working there as a kid, Ari cannot fathom a life wasting away over rising dough and hot ovens. But while interviewing candidates for his replacement, Ari meets Hector, an easygoing gay who loves baking as much as Ari wants to escape it. As they become closer over batches of bread, love is ready to bloom... that is, if Ari doesn't ruin everything
