Les Miserables Act 2

I love Les Miserables and since I recently reviewed Sky Without Stars, I think it's the perfect time for some Les Mis book recs! If you don't know what the story is about you can check out my book recommendations for act 1.

Do You Hear The People Sing?

Unbirthday by Liz Braswell

In Unbirthday, Alice rallies up all the Wonderland natives to rebel against the Queen of Heats. She could have been singing "Do You Hear the People Sing" the whole time and it would have made perfect sense.

Synopsis:

What if Wonderland was in peril and Alice was very, very late?

Alice may not be like every other girl in Kenxford, and she's perfectly fine with that. While her sister may concern herself with boys and rallies, Alice has much more important matters on her hands. Such as Wonderland. Eleven years after visiting the curious land, Alice gets an urgent message from some of its inhabitants. Wonderland is in peril, and Alice is very very late.

Javert At The Barricade

Sophia's War would be my pick for "Building the Barricade." Just like Javert, Sophia was a spy on the enemy side of the war. While Sophia spies on the British in the American Revolution, Javert is a spy on the Students of the ABC.

Synopsis:

1776, New York City. (How many Hamilton fans sang that?) Sophia Calderwood witness the hanging of Nathan Hale, the American spy. Sophia is horrified by the event. New York is occupied by the British and it's dangerous to be a patriot. Sophia is recruited as a spy and becomes a maid in General Clinton's house. That's how Sophia uncovers a plot that could decide the fate of the revolution.

Little Fall of Rain

You could tell that during the whole book, Mare was hurting from Maven's betrayal. Just like Marius comforts Eponnie in her hour of need, Cal is there to help Mare.

Synopsis:

Mare Barrow has red blood. But she has silver abilities. There are others like her out there. She now joins forces with the Scarlet Guard. Mare only has days to find the other New Bloods and train them. But Maven is also after the New Bloods. And he will make sure every one of them is dead.

Drink With Me

The main theme of "Drink With Me" is friendship. Diana and Alia have a strong friendship in Warbringer and like the students, they fight together for the greater good.

Synopsis:

Diana is the daughter of immortals. Living with the legendary Amazons, Diana has wanted nothing more than to prove her worth to her sisters. She finally gets the chance to be a hero when she discovers Alia moments after ship weck. By saving the girl, Diana is risking everything including exile. She discovers Alia is a Warbringer, the direct decedent of Helen of Troy. People are hunting Alia. They would do anything to see her dead. But it's up to her and Diana to stop an impending war.

Bring Him Home

In "Bring Him Home," Jean Valjean sings about how he hopes Marius will safely return from the barricade. This kind of reminds me of how worried Cal was when Maven captured Mare in King's Cage

Synopsis:

Though Mare has been taken captive by King Maven, rebellion still burns in her heart. She can't do much confined in the walls of the palace but watch as Maven desperately tries to defeat the Scarlet Gaurd. Meanwhile, Cal trains with the Scarlet Gaurd as they prepare to take back Norta and help Mare escape Maven's cage.

The Death of Gavroche

WARNING, MAZE RUNNER SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST BOOK. Gavroche reminded me so much of Chuck. They were both cute little boys who died way too soon.

Synopsis:

Thomas can't remember anything. He doesn't remember his life before he came to the Glade. The Glade is surrounded by a huge maze. Gladers run out there every day but yet they can't find a way out. The walls are always moving, always changing. At night, they are full of dangerous monsters called Grievers- beasts that could kill. Shortly after Thomas arrives, something strange happens. A girl arrives. The first girl to ever come to the Glade. And now, more than ever,  the GLaders are determined to escape, but few will survive.

Javerts Suicide

If you're a musical theatre fan, you've probably already heard of Dear Evan Hansen. If not, then you should know that the story is mainly centered around the suicide of Connor Murphy and how Evan deals with it.

Synopsis:

Evan Hansen has never been important before. He's been invisible his whole life. Connor Murphy felt the same way. But then Connor commits suicide with a letter addressed to Evan in his pocket. A letter that Evan wrote to himself. When the Murphys find it, they are convinced that Evan was Connors's one and only friend. He thought he was giving the Murphys what they needed. Evan thought that he could make everything easier for everyone. All he did was dig himself deeper into the lie he created.

Empty Chairs and Empty Tables

In this song, Marius sings about his dead friends. It is so sad and there is no better book to go with this than The Year Afer You. In this book, Cara mourns the loss of her best friend G.

Synopsis:

G died. But she survived. This hurts Cara every day. She is consumed by guilt and grief. Nine months later, Cara is shipped off to a boarding school in Switzerland. Cara is determined to make sure no one knows about the accident. But her new classmates, Ren and Hector, won't let that happen. They won't let her close herself off from the rest of the world. After she built her walls so carefully, Ren and Hector come into her life to break them down. A little part of Cara even wants them to. Hector seems to understand Cara like no one else. But the closer Hector gets, the more the truth starts to slip away. If admitting her mistake means letting go of G, she's not sure she's ready for a second chance. Or if she even deserves one.

A Heart Full Of Love (Reprise)

For "A Heart Full of Love," I'm choosing The Elite. Both the song and the book have a pair of lovebirds with an unbreakable bond. Another thing connecting the two is (SPOILER ALERT) a soon-to-be-dead father.

Synopsis:

35 Girls Came to the Palace. Only 6 Remain. America has made it to The Elite. Now she must choose who her heart is fully committed to, her first love Aspen or the handsome Prince Maxon. Every girl left is out to win Maxon and now that the group is narrowed down to six, friendships no longer remain. While America is desperate for more time to decide, all the others already know what they want- the heart or the crown.

Valjean's Confession

In Serena Valentino's Villains series, she explores the backstory of Disney's most feared villains. In Fairest of All, we got to learn the truth behind the Evil Queen's actions.

Synopsis:

While she may seem like a jealous queen after a young girl's beauty, she is so much more. They may have been logic and heartache behind the Queen's attempts on the sweet girl's life. The Queen struggles with her looks and the trauma from her childhood helps her accept the fact that she must become the fairest of them all.

The Wedding

Cosette and Marius finally get married in this book. This song and The One both end with a wedding that is beautiful.

Synopsis:

35 girls entered The Selection, only 1 can win. The Selection changed America's life, but how much more can it change? A lot. She's finally made up her mind, but the pressure of being a princess, a queen, could change it again. And America's feisty personality gets her into a fight with almost EVERY character. And soon her feelings start going on another emotional roller coaster. We go back to Aspen then back to Maxon. And soon enough America makes an enemy with the worst person possible. So she decided that she's going to lose and that she'll go out with a bang!

Beggars At The Feast

Every time the Thendiars show up everyone just groans in pain! You can tell people are so annoyed with their presence. Throughout the whole Dorothy Must Die series, I felt that way about Dorothy. There were multiple instances when I found myself just thinking, why can't she just die already?

Synopsis:

Dorothy thought she saved Oz. But she was just the beginning of all their problems. After Dorothy found a way back to Oz, she's been ruling the magical land with an iron fist. She's not the girl from Kansas everyone thought she was. Amy Gumm is the other girl from Kansas. After being recruited by the Order of the Wicked, Amy is going to save Oz. But to do that, Dorthy must die.
