The Enchantress Returns by Chris Colfer

Image
Alex and Connor think of the Land of Stories every day. They long for the magical adventure they once had. One day, they get their wish. After their mother gets kidnapped by the feared Enchantress, Alex and Connor find a way back to the Land of Stories. With the help of Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Jack, and Froggy, the twins set out on a quest to complete the Wand of Wonderment- the only thing that can defeat the Enchantress. I love how Chris Colfer can make me have sympathy for any villain. The Evil Queen, Esma, the Snow Queen- they all have such tragic backstories. I don't think I could ever hate any of his characters for very long. The characters are so lovable. Red and Connor are so funny. Alex and Connor balance each other out so well. Alex is always so serious and worried while Connor adds some much-needed comic relief. The two are so different but their personalities work so well. The story is always moving which I love. The world-building is amazing. I love how Colfer cra...

Goldilocks: Wanted Dead or Alive by Chris Colfer

Image
Goldilocks is an outlaw who spends her days stealing and running through the Dwaf Forests, the only place where monsters and criminals can live freely. When the Charming brothers threaten to tear down everyone's home, it's up to Goldilocks to save the Dwaf Forests, but to do that, she'll need help from the most notorious outlaws across the kingdoms. Goldilocks recruits the help of Puss in Boots, the Gingerbreadman, and the ever so terrifying Little Miss Muffet. Chris Colfer never ceases to amaze me. The Land of Stories is so rich and I love every story that comes from it. It took me a day to fly through this book. I enjoyed the plot a lot and loved the ending.  I loved that this book explored more of the Charming brothers. They didn't have very big roles in the rest of his books, but they were so evil in this graphic novel! Chris Colfer always creates such immersive worlds full of adventure. I loved getting to see Goldilock's backstory. She has always been one of m...

After she changed the world forever, Brystal thought that everything would be fine. Women were no longer suppressed. Magic was welcomed. What could be better? But then a new school opens. A school for witchcraft. And Brystal's friend Lucy walks right into the witches' trap when she discovers the intentions for the school. At the same time, a century-old brotherhood is rising. They are determined to rid the world of magic, starting with Brystal. Okay. Wow. Still not over this book yet. I don't think anyone writes plot twists like Chris Colfer. I'm STILL hung up over this one particular incident. If you loved  Maven from Red Queen , let me tell you, your gonna love this book.  The characters in this book are totally loveable. I already cared for many of the characters that were in A Tale of Magic , but I love some of these new characters. Especially Seven. I love that dude so much. In this book, we were also introduced to the Ravenchrest School of Witchcraft which bought ...

Brystal Evergreen is an outcast living in the Southern Kingdom where girls are only raised to be wives and mothers. Girls aren't supposed to read, but Brystal loves books and she knows she's destined for great things. When she's caught using magic, she is enrolled in Madame Weatherberrys Academy of Magic only after weeks of torture. But when Madame Weatherberry starts to disappear for weeks at a time, Brystal and her friends start to question her true intentions for the school. And they are darker then they could ever imagine. HOLY PLOT TWIST, THIS WAS A GOOD BOOK! So if you can't guess already, I loved A Tale of Magic . There were so many plot twists and everything was amazing. It's definitely in my top 10. I loved Chirs Colfer's The Land of Stories  so much. One of the reasons I love his books so much is because the world-building is absolutely amazing. His characters are so well-written and I always feel like I'm right there with them. A Tale of Magic  is...

From the time she was just a kid to when she was marching in the Pride Day Parade, this book is full of Mother Goose's thrilling journeys. The Mother Goose Diaries  was full of wisecrack jokes and snarky humor. I loved it! We get to follow Mother Goose as she tampers with history. The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer

Image
For Alex and Conner's twelfth birthday, they receive a book from their grandmother. After the book starts acting weird, the twins find a magic portal in it. They are transported to The Land of Stories where all their favorite childhood fairytales are real. The only way home, however, it the wishing spell. But here's the catch, the wishing spell can only be used twice and it has already been used once before. The twins find it's a race against the clock because the infamous Evil Queen is also after the spell. The Land of Stories  had been my favorite book series since I was in 6th grade and it's what got me really into reading. Chris Colfer has been one of my favorite authors for the last three years. The Land of Stories  is my favorite middle-grade book. I loved this book so much. I will admit that at first, I thought I would hate the book. You see, my mother tried for a year or two to get me to read the book and I didn't want to. Finally, at a book fair in 6th gr...

Carson Phillips lives in the small town of Clovis, California. His family was never easy. His father left years ago and his mother might as well be high. With hi snark attitude, Carson has drams of attending Northwestern College at the end of his senior year. But his dreams of escaping the small town comes at a cost. To increase his chances of getting into Northwestern, he has to submit a literary magazine. With a school full of people who hate writing, blackmail is the only choice. With his friend Marley by his side, Carson might finally the small cage of Clovis he's trapped in. I LOVED this book and it's definitely my new favorite stand-alone. I want to watch the movie now to which is Chris Colfer stars in.  I read this book in about two days! There is so much drama in it. The blackmail in this book was incredibly built too.  Carson is snarky and full of crude humor. This book could make anyone laugh out loud, but be ready for the tear-jerking moments that follow.
