5 Queer Books to Add to Your TBR

 June is pride month! There are so many great queer books out there, but here are a few of my favorites!

My Calamity Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows

Synopsis:

 The Wild West is full of outlaws, gun-slingers, and garou. Yes, the wild west is full of werewolves. Calamity Jane has been garou hunting with Bill Hickok and performing in Wild Bill's Wild West for what seems like years now. Frank Butler, better known as the Pistol Prince, is the best sharpshooter but it seems he has met his match when he meets Annie Oakly. Annie's new to the gang but that doesn't stop her from helping when the three find themselves in a bit of a hairy situation. Jane's been bitten by a garou and if she doesn't get the cure fast enough, she might not be around for much longer.

The Sky Blues by Robbie Couch

Synopsis:

 Sky is openly gay. Living in a small town, he's never been comfortable being himself around others. Sky decides to go full-throttle gay by asking out his crush, Ali Rashid, to prom. Sky has thirty days to put together the perfect promposal. When Sky's plans are leaked by an anonymous hacker in a homophobic e-blast. When his friends and classmates start to stand up for him, Sky starts to hunt down the hacker. But what will happen at the end of the thirty days? Will Sky keep his newfound confidence? Or will he go back to being invisible?

Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmrich

Synopsis:

Evan Hansen has never been important before. He's been invisible his whole life. Connor Murphy felt the same way. But then Connor commits suicide with a letter addressed to Evan in his pocket. A letter that Evan wrote to himself. When the Murphys find it, they are convinced that Evan was Connors's one and only friend. He thought he was giving the Murphys what they needed. Evan thought that he could make everything easier for everyone. All he did was dig himself deeper into the lie he created.

The Henna Wars by Adiba Jairgar

Synopsis:

 When Nishat comes out to her parents, they don't accept her as who she is. They say Nishat can be whoever she wants as long as she's not herself. They also say Muslim girls aren't lesbians. Nishat can't hide who she is, but she also can't lose her family. In a world where no one else seems to except her besides her family, Nishat is running out of people she can confide in. As if that wasn't bad enough, an old friend from her childhood comes back into her life. Nishat falls for Flávia right away. When a school competition has students create their own business, Nishat and Flávia both chose to do henna, even though Flávia would be appropriating Nishat's culture.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

Synopsis:

Yadriel has something to prove to his family. As a trans gay boy, his family doesn't believe that he can become a brujo. While trying to summon the spirit of his murdered cousin, Miguel, Yadriel accidentally summons the spirit of Julian, the school's resident bad boy. Yadriel makes a deal to help Julian cross over to the other side. But the more time Yadriel spends with Julian, the less he wants him to leave.
