The River Has Teeth by Erica Waters

Image
Natasha's sister is missing. Her car was found abandoned on the edge of a nature reserve. When the case runs cold, Natasha's anger starts to rise. She's desperate to find answers and will do anything possible to get them, including turning the Lloyds for help. Della Lloyd's family has been gathering magic from the Bend. When Natasha appears on her doorstep, Della knows it will take more than a simple potion to help her. Della has her own secrets to hide though. She thinks the monster responsible for all the missing women in town is her mother. I've been reading a lot of trope-y books lately and  The River Has Teeth was a refreshing change of pace. I enjoyed this book a lot. The writing was atmospheric. I loved the gothic setting. The horror and fantasy elements twisted together in this book are beautiful! I also love the mystery included in this novel. I always enjoy a good whodunnit. It was so suspenseful. There seemed to be a new twist around every corner. I didn...

Dorothy Must Die Stories Vol. 2 by Danielle Paige

Image
The wizard is gone and now, the Scarecrow is the king of Oz. His crown is soon threatened though when General Jinjur invades the Emerald City. The Scarecrow will have to use all his wits to defeat Oz's new foe. Shortly after, Glinda sends the Lion on a mission to get a necklace that really ends up having no importance. Months later, Dorothy returns and the Tin Woodman falls head over heels for her. Dorothy Must Die Stories Vol. 2  contained three novellas. First off was Heart of Tin  which was about the Tin Woodman. That novella was defiantly my favorite of the three. Tin's crush on Dorothy was adorable and though I knew it would never happen, I wanted them to end up together. Onto the second novella, The Straw King . Obviously, this novella was about the Scarecrow. I thought this one was okay. Alone, this novella would be worthy of three stars. There was some boring moment but for the most part, it was a good book. The last novella was King of the Beasts . I hated this ...

Let's Book Talk: Time Bomb

Image
I loved the book Time Bomb . There's so much that I want to talk about so let's jump into it! Just a warning that there will be a lot of major spoilers for this book so read at your own risk! Tad     Tad was undoubtedly my favorite character. I love that we got some LGBT representation. He was such a good character. I don't have any reason why I loved him so much, I just did.   Frankie     I hated Frankie. He sounded like a huge jerk. This dude just couldn't deal with his problems. He kept trying to blame what had happened to Tad but it was HIS fault too. He shouldn't have kept saying it was Tad's problem to deal with. This dude had to get his shit together. Seriously.     Adding onto that, the way Diana described him made him sound like a douche. I still don't understand why he just ditched her in July.      Even though I hated Frankie a lot, I don't think Time Bomb  would have been as good without him. Diana   ...

The Cleaners by Ken Liu

Image
Is it better to remember or forget? Gui is a professional cleaner who scrubs away the unwanted memories of the past. Unlike other cleaners, Gui can't feel the memories from the objects. However, Clara can. She doesn't like to though. When her sister Beatrice brings back a memory from her childhood, Clara's mind might change. I wished The Cleaners  was more than a short novella. I would have loved it if this was a full book. It's such an interesting concept. In the short time, there was, I loved Beatrice and Clara. All three of the characters had so much to contribute. The Cleaners is the fourth book in the Faraway  series which I love! The other two I read (so far) were based on past fairytales so I'm not sure if this one was inspired by one too. Going into the book, I thought maybe Cinderella? Nevertheless, The Cleaners  was short and memorable. It was really deep and even made me think a little. Page Count: 28 pages Published: December 15, 2020 Genre: fantasy Ser...

August TBR

Image
Summers ending soon! At the end of August, I go back to school. Before then though, I go on vacation to Rhode Island where hopefully, I'll get to do lots of beach reading. So, here are five books I want to read in August. The Toll  by Neal Shusterman The Toll is the final book in the Arc of a Scythe  trilogy. I'm so excited to read it, especially since Thunderhead off on a bit of a cliffhanger. Goodreads synopsis: It's been three years since Rowan and Citra disappeared; since Scyth Goddard came into power; since the Thunderhead closed itself off to everyone but Grayson Tolliver. In this pulse-pounding conclusion of the  New York Times  bestselling author Neal Shusterman's  Arc of a Scythe  trilogy, constitutions are tested and old friends are brought back from the dead. A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow  by Taylor Laura Namey Summer seems like the perfect time to read A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow  so I want to get to it be...

July Wrap Up

Image
Despite July being a pretty busy month for me, I managed to read sixteen books. I've had a pretty good month which is great since I didn't read a lot in June. Book Reviews: XOXO  by Axie Oh Rating: 4 stars I loved the setting of this book! Based on the cover alone, Souel looks like a beautiful place! I really enjoyed this cute romance. Synopsis:  Jenny is a cellist. She's always known what she's wanted to do in the future. After attending Manhatten Music School, she wants to become part of an orchestra. Jaewoo is a member of an up-and-coming k-pop group. When being together means throwing their dreams away, they have to decide if they're willing to risk everything to be together. My review Lost in the Never Woods  by Aiden Thomas Rating: 5 stars One of my favorite books of 2020 was Cemetery Boys  and Aiden Thomas's second book was just as amazing as his first. Lost in the Never Woods  was a dark and creepy Peter Pan retelling.  Synopsis:  It's be...

Time Bomb by Joelle Charbonneau

Image
Cas, Diana, Rashid, Tad, Z couldn't be more different. The depressed girl, the perfect daughter, the star football player, the kid who everyone makes fun of, the closeted gay, and the trouble maker. What brings them together is an experience that will change their lives forever. The six are all trapped in a school. A school that has bombs inside. Even worse, they overhear on the radio that the bomber is still inside the building. And it happens to be one of them. Time Bomb  had me on the edge of my seat. It was gripping, fast-paced, and I couldn't put it down. From the moment I picked it up, I wanted to know who set off the bomb. Each character had a motive that was clear from the start- except Dianna and Tad. He was such a sweetheart.   At every moment, I found myself trying to guess who set off the bomb. What was the motive? I want to solve this mystery. And solve this mystery I did.  I kept switching between a couple suspects and this really crazy idea.  You proba...
