February was a great month for me and so far, March has been great. I'm super excited about the recent release of The Queen's Secret by Melissa de la Cruz. Where Dreams Descend by Janella Angeles Dates read: February 18 - February 21     Where Dreams Descend was such a great book! It's no surprise that I loved it as much as I did. You can't possibly describe a book as "a combination of  Moulin Rouge and Phantom of the Opera " and expect me not to love it. Kallia was such a great character and I totally fell for the villain of this book. Synopsis:      Kallia has never left Hellfire House. The place that kept her prisoner for so long made her feel trapped. When she escapes, she finds out about a competition to find the next headliner of the Conquering Circus. When she enters alongside her assistant, Aaros, they find sinister things lurk in the shadows. Magicians start disappearing, the walls of the city of Glorian keep them trapped, and tricks start going w...

Punching the Air by Ibi Zoboi & Yusef Salaam

Amal Shahid didn't commit the crime but that doesn't change the fact that he's sent to prison anyway. Through his art and poetry, he's able to express himself. Amal uses his creativity, to tell the truth, his truth.      Punching the Air was beautiful! There were so many parts that brought me close to tears. The words contained in this novel are powerful and Amal's whole journey was moving.      Punching the Air  was told in verse and that's a format that I really like. I think all of Amal's poems really helped to relay the theme of racism in the book.      I also love that there were small images or drawings that went along with the story. I love it when books add that extra step to make them really special which this book really did well. My favorite image was the one of the microphones.     This is definitely a book that I'd like to reread someday in the future. Page Count: 400 pages Published: September 1, 2020 Genre:...

March TBR

Image
Well, we’ve officially survived one year in lockdown here in the US. Last March, we all left school, excited for two weeks off. What we weren’t expecting was for those two weeks to become a year full of masks, hand sanitizer, and distance learning.     I agree that this whole thing sucks. Luckily, I’ve found ways to keep in touch with my friends such as movie nights over Zoom. We watched Grease Live the other night.     Another thing I’ve been doing to keep my sanity is reading. And I’ve done a lot of reading. I started out picking just five books a month for my TBR but based on how fast I’ve been going through these books, I have six books on my TBR this month. The Henna Wars  by Adiba Jaigirdar The Henna Wars is a book that I’m really excited to read! It’s diverse, it has LGBTQ representation- what’s not to love? I am fully confident that this will be a 5 star reads.  Synopsis: Wh en Nishat comes out to her parents, they say she can be anyone she wants- ...

February was a great month for me. I got some great books this month that I am so excited to share! I ended up getting a lot of my books for my birthday so there are so many new books on my TBR. I ended up getting a lot of mystery books which I love! Dracula by Russel Punter     The first book I got this month was a graphic novel adaptation of Dracula . I haven't read the orgional book yet, though it is a classic I want to read. Goodreads s ynopsis:     Young Lawyer Jonathan Harker journeys to Transylvania to meet with the mysterious Count Dracula only to discover that his nobleman client is a vampire who is thirsty for new blood. The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Image
Jude has been living in Faerie ever since she was seven. Living with the man who murdered her parents, it is understandable that Jude's life is terrifying. SHe wants to be something more than a mortal. She wants to be someone powerful. When Prince Dian hires her as a spy, she knows that her time has come. Jude finally gets the chance for power, for victory.     Oh yeah, there's also this prince who's a huge jerk. Why is Carden important? He's the love interest. Er, that's not the right word. There's definitely a spark between him and Jude but no love. Not yet. Carden really doesn't have any purpose in this story though.     I wasn't really sure where the plot of this whole book was going since for the first half Jude just wanted to be a knight. After becoming a spy she finds out some evil plot and that's pretty much it.     At first, I didn't really like The Cruel Prince . Not gonna lie, I thought about DNFing this audiobook once or twice, I'...
