Recent Reads

March is officially over and spring has sprung! Now that it's April, I'm hoping to read so many good books. My goal for the month is to start reading even more than I already do and get my massive TBR pile under control. Let's hope I can do it! Here are a few books that I recently read. There are so many good ones to take about!

Cress by Marissa Myers

Dates read: March 19 - March 24

Each book in this series just keeps getting better and better. Cress and Thorne are such a cute couple and I can't wait to read Winter.

Synopsis:

Cress has spent her whole life locked in a spaceship, orbiting Earth. After being rescued by Captin Carswell Thorne, their ship crashes in Africa. Meanwhile, Cinder and her crew are preparing to face their next challenge: stopping the royal wedding.

Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

Dates read: March 23 - March 27

It's very rare that I find a sequel that is even better than the first book in the series. Thunderhead ended off on such a huge cliffhanger. I think I might die if I actually don't get my hands on The Toll soon.

Synopsis:

A year after Citra was supposed to kill Rowan, he lives on the run as the infamous Scythe Lucifer. He kills the corrupt scythes in the scythedom, but his acts have placed a giant target on his back. Citra does her duty day by day as the honorable Scythe Anastasia. But someone is targeting Citra and Scythe Curie. Someone who means to end their lives.

Sadie by Courtney Summers

Dates read: March 27 - March 28

Sadie was such an addictive novel. As soon as I started, I couldn't put it down. I wouldn't say that I loved Sadie because it isn't the type of book one would typically love. There were so many awful things happening in it.

Synopsis:

Sadie couldn't handle it when Mattie died. That's when she went missing. Now, West McCray is producing a new podcast called The Girls. At first, he doesn't want to do the show. Girls go missing all the time. Why would there be anything special about Sadie? When West finally does travel to the small town of Cold Creek, he's determined to find out what actually happened to Sadie.

Dracula adapted by Russell Punter

Date read: March 29

This graphic novel adaptation of Dracula was spectacular! One of my favorite things about the Graphic Stories adaptations is that they all have maps in them! Maps are some of my favorite bookish features so the fact that there is one in this graphic novel just makes me love it more than I already do!

Synopsis:

In Transylvania, evil lurks. Jonathan Harker goes to Dracula's castle on business, but he finds sinister creatures are occupying the space. A month later, Mini, Jonathan's finance, finds herself in a peculiar incident of her own. Her friend Lucy has been sleepwalking. Even worse, her blood has been disappearing and she has two strange bite marks on her neck.

The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman

Date read: April 3

The other day I was gifted a physical copy of The Hill We Climb which was the poem Amanda Gorman read at President Biden's inauguration. I sadly didn't get to watch her give the speech live on TV, but this book was absolutely moving!

War Storm by Victoria Aveyard

Dates read: March 30 - April 4

I've officially finished the Red Queen series. It's been quite a ride but these books were great. I loved all the different POVs included in the final book.

Synopsis:

After witnessing Cal's stunning betrayal, Mare is determined to protect her heart above all else. With the Lakelander army on his side, Maven's power only seems to be growing. Allied with Norta and Montfort, is finally time for the Scarlet Gaurd to rise red as the dawn and end this war once and for all.

A Study in Scarlett by Arthur Conan Doyle

Dates read: April 4 - April 5

I read the Sherlock Holmes novels out of order and I'm pretty happy I did. A Study in Scarlett was my least favorite out of them all. I wasn't as interested in this one. Also, the second half was a little weird because it was all about Mormons and didn't even have anything to do with Sherlock.

Synopsis:

John Watson investigates the murder of a woman with his new roommate, Sherlock Holmes.

Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas

Dates read: April 5 - April 6

As if I wasn't already obsessed with Cemetery Boys, Aiden Thomas comes and hits me with this book which was so amazing. Lost in the Never Woods is officially my favorite fairytale retelling! It was so dark and twisted! I loved it and couldn't put it down hence when I was able to read the book in just under 48 hours.

Synopsis:

It's been five years since Wendy's brothers, John and Micheal, have gone missing. Now, kids in her small town have started disappearing without any explanation. When these strange circumstances hit the news, questions about Wendy's brothers start to resurface. In an attempt to escape all the questions and uncertainties, Wendy almost runs over an unconscious boy in the road. A boy named Peter who pulls her deeper into this mystery.
