Throughout Hollow City(from Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children), the Tales have been mentioned several times and have been a big part of the story. Tales of the Peculiar is edited by Millard and include many notes from him which I love! The Tales include:
- The Splendid Cannibals- A story about a group of peculiars that can grow back their limbs like starfish. The peculiars meet a group of civil cannibals. All but one peculiar become overwhelmed with the money the cannibals' offer and the peculiars sell them stuff until they have nothing left.
- The Fork Tongued Princess- This story is about a peculiar princess who is locked away because of her differences.
- The First Ymbryane- That's pretty self-explanatory.
- The Woman who Befriended Ghost- In this story, the woman's sister died very young. She grows up as her sister's ghost is her only friend. When her sister leaves, the woman moves into a house filled with a ghost but has no luck making a friend.
- Cocobolo- Zhengs father was lost at sea looking for Cocobolo, an island full of riches. When he is finally old enough, Zheng continues his father's search for Cocobolo.
- The Pigeons of St. Paul- Although the pigeons were kind to the humans in the version told in Hollow City, a different version is told here were the pigeons hate the humans.
- The girl Who Could Tame Nightmares- Livinana could take and give nightmare to people. Her father goes away on business telling Livinana not to use her power but the urge to help people cloud her better judgment.
- The Locust- This tale is about a particular child whose heart is too big. He takes the form of whatever creature cares and loves him.
- The Boy Who Could Hold Back the Sea- When his mother dies, the boy must fend from himself in a poor Ireland. He uses his power to get across the ocean but gets in trouble along the way.
- A Tale of Cuthbert- Cuthbert the giant helps all animals, but one day, he is cursed by a witch.
I love that an autobiography was even included for Millard in the back of the book. The book was also dedicated to Miss Peregrine which I thought was really cute.
