The Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black

After Kaye moves back to New Jersey, she ends up saving a mysterious stranger. But she might not be as human as she thinks when she discovers that she's a pawn in the war between the two faerie kingdoms. Meanwhile, Val is running away to New York. She finds refuge with a gang of squatters. When tracking down the lair of a monster with her new friends, she finds love behind a beast. Kaye and Val are plunged into the world of faerie.
This is a stunning romance and I adored this book! The Modern Faerie Tales is a trilogy but there is a copy that has all three books in one. The three books in this series are Tithe, Valient, and Ironside. There was also a short story in the back of the book. I loved Tithe and Ironside which were both about Kaye and her adventures in faerie. I would give both of those five stars. It was so easy to get into the story and it was amazing. I was instantly connected to Kaye. Tithe and Ironside were never boring.
But Valient, on the other hand, wasn't my favorite. There were good parts in this book but it just moved really slowly. It had nothing to do with Kaye or her story. Valient is the second book in the trilogy. Val in mentioned twice is Ironside. Sure the plot is mentioned a couple times in book three, but it really didn't have much to do with Kaye. Also, the only character carried into Ironside was Luis.
Let's get back to the good in this book. As I mentioned before, Tithe and Ironside are amazing. The romance was steamy, the adventure was thrilling, and it was an all-around good book. I shipped Kaye and Roiben before they even realized their feelings for each other! I also loved the gay romance in this book.
The book takes place in the same world as The Spiderwick Chronicles (I think) and The Cruel Prince. Carden, the main character of The Cruel Prince and some other characters from the series were mentioned in the short story, The Lament of Lutie-Loo.
