"She was exclusive. She was today. She was tomorrow. We did not know what to make of her. In our mind, we tried to pin her to a corkboard like a butterfly, but the pin went right through her." This quote from the book sums it up perfectly.
Stargirl Caraway had been homeschooled until now. To the students of Mica High, this was a big deal. She was different from everyone else. She carried a canvas bag with sunflowers on it. She wore floor-length skirts. She strummed her ukulele every day at lunch. She carried her pet rat, Cinnamon, with her everywhere. Stargirl wasn't afraid to be herself. By December, the whole school loved her. Stargirl is narrated by Leo Borlock, who is entering his junior year of high school. Leo becomes friends with Stargirl and learns about the importance of individuality.
This book has an overall message that it's ok to be yourself. If you like this book then check out the sequel: Love, Stargirl.
